Foul cold - what can I take?

I am 15+3w with twins and have come down with what will no doubt be the first of many colds this winter! I know I can take paracetamol (for all the good that does) - but what about decongestants and cough medicine?

Can anyone help - I am feeling rubbish! Thanks.

I feel your pain, I've been off sick with a cold all week.
Unfortunately you can't take much. I've been using olbas oil on a tissue to clear my nose and drinking honey and lemon for my throat. I think you just have to ride it out with low doses of paracetamol and try to keep your temperature down with plenty of cold water. Oh and rest lots.

Basically avoid codeine, asprin, ibuprofen - ask the pharmasist, they'll be able to help.

You can get old fashioned lemsip from Boots. Which doesn't contain decongestants so is fine to take.

Olbas oil and Vicks are you friends. I had an Olbas oil vapouriser which was pretty good.

Get well soon!

You can have normal doses of paracetamol and then whatever makes the symptoms ease ie steam, honey and lemon, warm drinks, sleep, olbas oil etc.

There's pretty much nothing you can do about a cold other than alleviate the symptoms anyway.

You can take it nice and easy. And drink plenty.

Get well soon.

I got through mine with paracetamol, hot drinks and honey and lemon locket sweets. All perfectly ok in pregnancy although the nurse recommended I didn't take more than one sweet in an hour due to the large sugar content.

God I sympathise. I am 32 weeks with a horrendous cold. I took some paracetemol the other night but did some research and it seemed all cold and flu tablets were out. I am trying to battle it with fluids and rest.

Thanks all. I spent the weekend lying in bed thinking I was dying! Seems to have mutated into a sinus infection and possibly a chest infection too with coughing up blood and breathlessness).

Fortunately I'm seeing the consultant this afternoon anyway.

God I hate being pregnant!

Please let us know what (if anything) your consultant suggests - get well soon!
