UTI, ligaments or wind?

I have just asked the day assessment unit about this, but I'm off on holiday at the weekend and I was wondering if anyone else has had this and can put my mind at rest?

I'm 27 weeks and for the last day and a half I've had pain in my lower abdomen, sometimes in my back too. It kind of comes and goes, but is accompanied by a feeling of needing to wee, and the lower half of my bump sometimes feels a bit tender to the touch. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not so bad (e.g. right now = not so bad, not even any back pain).

The baby is quite low down according to the growth scan I had the other day, I wondered if it has gotten low down and is pushing on my bladder and causing the pain.

I don't mind the pain, it isn't so bad I can't put up with it, but I'm going away for two weeks and so I've got myself worried that it's something like a UTI and of course in my crazy lady state I've therefore assumed it'll develop into a kidney infection and will cause premature labour and so forth. Worst case scenario building is my speciality.

Anyone else got similar and can put my mind at rest? The day assessment unit said to see how it goes the next couple of days and call back if still a problem, but as I'm going to be away for two weeks I kind of want reassurance now!

Cheers,
GLB

Hi Goodluckbear, am 33w and still get the same, sometimes really sharp pains, sometimes dull, but everything has come back clear on urine tests etc. Have you had one recently at a midwife appt as UTIs are one of the things I thought they regularly test for- otherwise you could certainly ask if your GP could do one for you.
Might just be baby moving around and getting itself into uncomfortable positions (mine has a habit of punching/kicking my bladder at night- thanks!) or it might be that your ligaments are stretching again to make room.
I've had trapped wind and a bit of constipation too which can make things v uncomfortable as well, sorry if TMI.
Definitely keep an eye on it and raise it with docs if you are still concerned, but maybe plenty of water and rest might do the trick?

As someone who was repeatedly misdiagnosed when having abdominal pain (by GP, midwife, A&E unit) I are really wary about any unusual pains especially in late 2nd trimester or 3rd trimester- abdominal pain can be an indicator of pre-eclampsia, which can manifest in all sorts of ways and is not always the classic high BP, protein in urine etc. If I were you please just get your urine dipped to check on protein etc. levels and your blood pressure checked before you go away. Your midwife or the hospital DAU (or even your GP) should be able do this.
I'm sure it is just the baby's position coupled with loosened ligaments but do get checked over just in case- then at least you can enjoy your holiday without worrying! x

Thanks guys - I had a urine test done about four weeks ago (and will presumably have another done in two weeks time when I go back) but I think I'll just make an appointment with my GP now anyway just in case. Just hope they can fit me in!!

Up till today, I would have said ligament as this is exactly what I have been having. But went for consultant appointment last week and had urine dipped and it came back with an issue so was sent to lab for testing, have had a letter today and I have an infection. Already been and picked up the antibiotics. So it is always worth checking.

Take a midstream urine sample with you, they may well want to send it to the lab. Took overa week for me to get my results.
