why is it when I'm pregnant I strongly desire blue cheese?

I guess if I cook it (al la blue cheese pasta sauce with broccoli) it will be OK won't it????

I know the feeling, I can't wait to have a cheese (not just same old cheddar) and wine evening at some point after the birth.

I've read before here from other posters that blue cheese is ok if it's cooked properly.

Hope your pasta sauce hits the spot

My midwife said that you can eat blue cheese as long as it has a sell by date on it as it generally means that it has been pasturised. Also it is because of the listeria risk but in theory heating it will kill any bacteria.

Personally I would eat a little bit once maybe twice in my pregnancy.

But it is entirely up to you!

ps. I have been eating runny eggs!!

Same here! I really think that this whole business about not eating any unpasterised cheese etc is nonsense.
I am not saying we should eat a whole one but surely a little bit here and there will not do any harm. Everything we buy in supermarkets is over controled and super hygienic!

I also read an article recently confirming that unpasterised milk was actually good for mothers to be and baby. So who knows what to beleive?!

Our mothers ate normally and they were absolutely fine. I think it is one thing being reasonnable and make sure that we do not put yourselves in danger and another being paranoid about everything we put in our mouth. Sorry but I feel really strongly about it and can't bear all this nonsense about what you can or cannot eat. It is making us paranoid for nothing!

I'd say go for it and please urself resonnably...and enjoy! :)

Blue cheese pasta for dinner it is!! DP is out tonight so it's perfect night to indulge (he's not keen on it). With broccoli & mushrooms. Crazy for it!

In the couple of weeks before I found out I was pregnant I ate runny eggs, raw fish (on several occasions), several unpasturised cheeses, cured hams etc etc - I'm not too precious about it.

However I could do without actual cravings for foods on the caution list!! They don't help do they.

I didn't have many cravings really first time around (apart from blue cheese & an obsession with cake which I must be honest was more of an indulgence than a craving) - they are very strong this time around and it's still early days (about 9 weeks). I had a MC at 9 weeks last year so I am a little more cautious/fearful than with pregnant with DD. Though I believe what will be will be, I still do have an element of fear with this pregnancy I didn't have with DD.
