I dont think my midwife wants to give it to me. I see a different one each time and Ive seen this woman the last 2 times. Each time Ive asked and shes made an excuse such as it was not the right time to sign it (I was over 25 weeks which is what the guidelines state) and this time she didnt even look and just said ask another midwife next time you come. She was really flippant and then hurried us out.

Is there some kind of push amoung midwives/councils to limit the amount of grants given, seeing that they are scrapping it and I'll be one of the last to get it?

It just seems so fishy that shes really avoidant of any mention of it, and any questions.

My midwife did not want to give me the form either, then she continued to moan about it after she had filled it in.

Samraves · 15/09/2010 13:26

Hmm, my one put me off once and only gave it to me because I asked - maybe they are under instruction to not encourage people to claim this!

I got mine from my GP who was more than happy to fill it in. Midwife never mentioned it to me and I forgot to ask them. Took 5 weeks to get it paid, too.
Seems weird that your midwife is actively avoiding it.

My MW gave me mine lat week (25+3), I didn't need to ask - but she did say 'I'm running out of these' - I know they are scrapping the scheme, so perhaps they are just running out of forms (still no reason why you shouldn't have one though!).

mejon · 15/09/2010 13:30

When I was booking my 26 week appointment with the MW at 16 weeks she said 'Oh I'll be able to give you your HIP form then too' and was quite happy about it. Very strange of your MW to refuse to give it.

comtessa · 15/09/2010 13:32

My MW was fine - can you stamp your foot a bit next time and demand it? Still not got paid yet though...

emmab5 · 15/09/2010 14:51

I asked for my form at 25 weeks but mw didn't have any left. I did get it at 28 weeks though without a problem. Sent it off straight away and took just under 2 weeks to be paid into my account.

Refuse to leave your mw surgery until you've been given your form. It's not up to your mw to decide who is/isn't entitled to it.

runningrach · 15/09/2010 22:18

I believe it's paid centrally so I can't see any incentive for midwives not to issues it. Mine offered it without me asking (although I would have asked!). I think it's an idiotic benefit but while it's in place all pregnant women are fully entitled to it and this woman should not be fobbing you off.

I submitted my HP form at 26 weeks. When I called to enquire a couple of weeks later I was told that the MW had signed it with a date before 25 weeks (really don't think so as she'd signed it in front of me!). They said it would have to be referred to head office, which would take about six weeks. I told them not to bother and would submit a new form. Got new form from MW last Wednesday, submitted it same day, money in my account today.
