Hi all,

I've just returned from my 36 week midwife appointment and in my notes she has written +protein / large leuc msu. I have a bit of thrush at the moment and she said she is certain that that is what is showing up in the urine but has sent it to the lab to double check. However, I am wondering what the large leuc msu means?!

Any ideas?!

Thanks

large leuc is short for large amount of leucocytes - their a type of white blood cell which have most likely been swept into the urine sample as you've weed due to your thrush.

Urine sticks record the amount of glucose/ketones/protien/leucocytes etc as either negative/trace/+/++/+++ so you probably had +++ in the urine.

It's been sent just to check it was just white cells in there and not anything else that would indicate further infection.

Hope this has reassured you! (am A&E nurse - now on mat leave - so spent lots of time dipping urine!)

MSU is mid stream urine
Leuk is leukocytes...these are white blood cells that indicate a urinary tract infection.
Dont I sound clever???!
I googled!

I had this result with my last urine test, at 16 weeks.

Doc thought it was an infection. Results came back clear although I have been suffering with thrush so that could have been because of that I suppose.
