Coping with being ill in pregnancy

Hey all,

Had my first trimester scan today and it was brilliant unfortunately within an hour of leaving the hospital both me and my DP have started to feel quite unwell. My DP, bless his little cotton socks, suffers with extreme man flu this being only the second time he has been ill in his life (last time it was Swine flu and he actually told me he was dying despite the fact we both knew I'd had it the week before and lived).

So since plenty of rest is out of the question until DP is better, yes I'm currently looking after him and myself. Any idea how I feel better without the help of usual cold and flu drugs?

There's very little you can take really except a saline nasel spray to clear your nose, vicks in boiling water as a decongestant, lots of hot drinks and lots of rest!
Hope you feel better soon!

oh dear poor you!! However, i feel that carrying his baby kind of trumps his man fluWink, and he should be looking after you and bubba!! unfortunately, its only really paracetomol that you can take if i remember correctly, and the usual, rest and plenty of fluids. Hope you (and DH) feel better soon..xx

You have my sympathy - I had a cold/high temp a couple of weeks or so ago, and what would normally be no problem at all with the help of a Sinutab / Vicks / Night Nurse cocktail was just a nightmare. I used a neti pot and saline nasal spray, and took paracetamol when my temp was high, drank my bodyweight in honey & lemon and had olbas oil on a tissue on the bedside table.

I hope you feel loads better soon xx

Thanks for your messages.

I'm managing atm with hot Vimto (even though that's turning my stomach) and Honey and Lemon Lockets that the nurse at NHS direct just okayed me with. I feel like such a drama queen phoning the NHS Direct for a cold but sometimes there are so many scare stories online that it is just easier. Just another 6 hours and I can go home to bed :)

Are you at work?? Go home!

Probably right. I should have stayed off work yesterday. I have done today. Only been up an hour. I miss the collection of drugs I survive on during cold and flu time. Sleep isn't nearly as effective. Mixed in with the return of the morning sickness monster I'm having a rubbish day!
