My friends have only started telling me the full extent of their labours now Im pregnant. And 2 of them crapped... Id heard it before but when my friends gave me sugar coated versions of their labours, I thought, Ah it cant be that common!

So, through the anonymous medium of the internet forum, tell me, how common is this really?! And what can I do to stop it!!!

I did with all 3 of mine. IN fact the first set of pictures fo DS1 you can see it smeared on his shoulder if you look very carefully Grin

Honestly you won't give a s**t once you are in the throws of labour! (if you'll excuse th pun..)

LynetteScavo · 14/09/2010 19:22

3 out of 3 here.

Did I care? Not at all.

In fact I was rather pleased, after being constipated for 9 months.

Bumperlicious · 14/09/2010 19:33

I think I did but didn't notice, I honestly didn't care. The worst part was the bowel emptying in the early stages while contracting and trying to hold the tens machine out of the way, after having had a curry the night before (not recommended), and DH was there helping me, and I didn't care, that's his job.

Any man who brings that sort of thing up again, announces it in public, or teases his partner deserves a thousand enemas. Honestly, giving birth is hard and scary enough without having to worry about that sort of thing, especially from your DP who should be grateful to you for what you have gone through to bring a child into this world.

When you have a baby you hang your dignity up at the door and collect it when you leave!!!

I did but the MW was v professional!! My poor partner was less than impressed I have to say !
Good Luck x

BeehiveBaby · 14/09/2010 19:46

I was stressed about this until I saw the cross sections of the birth stages at antenatal class and you're not pooing as such...not losing control of your bowels I mean. The baby's head just squeezes out the contents as it passes the lower bowels which made me feel much much better! MW with DD2 went a bit far when she used the amount of poo I was doing to cheer me on during a trying second stage!

StrangewaysHereICome · 14/09/2010 20:08

Oh this is a funny thread!! Well I pooed both times but I didn't realise until I had a lucid moment and realised the mw was wiping my bum - felt like royalty really!

I was really shy about bodily functions and did worry about it a lot before having my first, but at the time you really don't care - honest!

Then I trained to run a marathon - and that gets the bowels moving. I have now pooed in al fresco twice - its quite liberating reallyGrin!

FellatioNelson · 14/09/2010 20:10

High. The chances are very high. Nothing to be done about really.

AnyFuleKno · 14/09/2010 21:03

cardamomginger, sorry to disillusion you but your baby is not going to come out soft and pink and perfect...they will be squished and covered in blood and goo!

notnowbernard · 14/09/2010 21:05

There is no 'chance'

It is a given (IME of 3 DC anyway)

Sorry

(You won't care though)

Zhen · 16/09/2010 00:35

This has been the funniest thread ever, I am crying and shaking with laughter!

DH tells me I didn't during either of my labours. 1st one I remember walking up and down the corridors, having to duck into a toilet every 30 seconds because I literally thought my insides were going to fall out (wincing at the memory). DH actually delivered my second baby, as we didn't get to the hospital on time. If I'd pooed, I'm convinced he'd have run a mile!

MrsMogwai · 16/09/2010 00:45

I work in a different branch of nursing, but can honestly say that apart from the first time I dealt with someone elses poo, it's a total non issue! Never bothers me in the slightest.

The only bodily fluid that most nurses can't stand is spit. Especially when someone spits at you - and that happens more often than you might think in frontline services!

Poledra · 16/09/2010 01:00

I didn't poo in any of my three labours.

You really will not care - after the births of my two younger DDs, an HCA washed me from the waste down, as I was unable to do it myself. It felt wonderful to be clean!

Poledra · 16/09/2010 01:03

waist down of course (though 'waste' might well have been involved......)

I did in both of mine.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 16/09/2010 14:35

And I definitely knew and I didnt care Blush and second time DH cleaned it up bless him. And we still managed to make baby no3 so it didnt really matter.

FloraSeymour · 16/09/2010 14:45

DD was a C/S so no poo involved and I can remember being reluctant to push with DS in case I did poo - foolish actually as they then did an episiotomy and forceps so I got stitches and probably did a poo anyway

FloraSeymour · 16/09/2010 14:45

Actually didnt realise it was so common - must conduct a survey on the school run later

MadAboutQuavers · 16/09/2010 14:54

Oh hell's teeth at all of this!!! Confused

I don't care about the MW's - it's my DP I don't want to poo in front of

I don't even like farting in front of him FFS Grin

notnowbernard · 16/09/2010 20:25

There's photographic evidence of my shit floating in the birthing pool immediately post-DS

Needless to say they won't be making it into the family album

thisisthevoiceofgod · 16/09/2010 20:30

and lo it will come to pass and it shall be smelly and bountiful and woah the midwives shall sweep it from the gurney and into ye olde blue cloth of redemption.

mooncupflowethover · 16/09/2010 21:40

'You've just done a massive black shit'.

I've just snorted Horlicks out of my nose!! Pmsl. Brilliant!

NonnoMum · 17/09/2010 22:34

Isn't all this poo-malarkey why they used to give you an enema as standard in the good old days?

bubbles4 · 17/09/2010 22:40

This has to be one of the funniest threads I haver seen on MN.
