Gaining too much weight??!!

Hello ladies

Just hopped on the scales at home and freaked out yesterday - I am 5'7 and weighed 10 stone 7 before preg (size 10-12) and now 11 stone 10 at 19 weeks. This seems quite a lot at the half way mark - is it? I haven't been stuffing my face with chips and chocolate or anything - just nibbling on fruit and nuts, maybe a slice of toast here and there!

Hope I don't sound vain, I just don't want to run into health difficulties later on!

Any stories shared would be appreciated.. xxx

Hi knasher I don't think that's too bad at all. I think you would still be just in the healthy weight gain range at a 17 pound gain. I really wouldn't worry about it too much either - if you're not stuffing your face and just eating a bit more food for energy levels then you are just doing what your body needs so don't stress about it.

FWIW I'm nearly at 30 weeks and have probs put on 22 pounds so far but am eating mostly healthy (bit more than pre-preg though but then I didn't eat loads before)and swimming. Don't know this for sure though as have binned the scales! There's nothing I can do about weight gain and it's going to happen so I'm not going to stress about it!

Hi,

If you haven't been stuffing your face then I wouldn't worry too much. A lot of it can be water and blood and placenta etc along with the baby.

I was told that some people carry lots of water and this obviously weighs a lot.

Just keep on eating as healthily as you can and try and go for a walk now and again.

It will all come off again when you start to breastfeed. Fingers crossed!

Hi Knasher,

I'm the same height as you and started off at 11 stone pre-pregnancy. I'm 15 weeks and 12 stone now Shock

I know a one stone gain is over the guidance for healthy weight gain in the first 15 weeks, but I put a lot of that down to the fact that I was doing lots of sport and exercising 6 days a week pre-preg. I've stopped playing my particular sport as its not recommended during pregnancy. Still trying to exercise when I can though.

I have definitely been eating a bit more on some days, but trying not to get too worked up about it. I figure that if I'm hungry, then I need to eat!

If you're not over-eating on a daily basis then I wouldn't worry about gaining over a stone at 19 weeks. Its very likely that the weight gain will balance itself out over the entire pregnancy.

Thanks for this, had calmed down a bit after your posts and then a lady I haven't seen for 3 weeks said - wow! You've popped out, you'rew huge!! Cheers. Yeah, I suppose I was going to the gym 4 times a week pre- preg and now only walk and swim once a week.

I think this is a time to just listen to your body and go with the flow - There's always zumba after birth!!! :)

I'm 5'2" and was 8 stone 5 pre pregnancy, was about 10 stone 7 at half way point, now about 12 stone at 38+3. I know this is far more than I should have gained looking at the guidelines but I'm really not that big. Once my belly's gone I'll be about a size 12. That can't be bad!

I weighted myself last night and have put on 16lbs since becoming pregnant. According to the calculator thingy this is 'too much'.

Whatever. I got rather angry with it. Like you knasher I have been eating healthily, healthier than I ever have.

No point in feeling bad because you don't match the statistics, if you KNOW you're eating the right things.
