Blood tests and swabs today, how long does it take for results to come through?

I'm currently about 6 weeks pregnant(ish, not exactly sure, but certainly no less than that) and I've had a brown discharge since monday.

Today I went into the EPU as the discharge was looking darker, and so far this pregnancy just hasn't felt "right" IYKWIM

The doctor said that my cervix was closed (which is a good thing) and she said there were three possibilies: ectopic, threatened MC or an infection (the way she said it made me think she thinks infection is most likely)

She took swabs and bloods and I was wondering how long it would take for these to come back?
(I've already had my HCG results, they are in the 5000s. They have to know them before they scan)

I have a scan booked for tomorrow, so I'll find out if there is anything wrong then, but if it is an infection, isn't it best if they know ASAP, so they can give me ABs.

Also, as an aside, if it is an infection, what could it be? I've had no pain, no itchiness, discharge fine (except for containing blood, of course) and smells either (I know I should have asked, but I forgot Blush)

I had swabs and tests at around 5 weeks and the results were back 24hrs later. I don't know if the weekend makes a difference. This was midweek.

I'm sorry you're having a worrying time.

I'm sorry I can't answer any of your other questions about infection.

You know to go straight to the hospital if you have more bleeding or pain or shoulder pain or anything untoward don't you?

Thanks for replying Smile
The doctor reminded me that I should go back should I have any of those symptoms. My arm hurts, but that's just because it took three attempts to find a vein when they took my blood. It's bruised something rotten. Grin

Not sure if the weekend makes a difference, because it's an obs/gyne/maternity hospital, so that's all they really do (and probably why they have the staff available for a scan on a Sunday)

Hopefully they'll have my results back tomorrow, and can tell me at the same time as my scan. If not, the sonographer might have an idea as to how long the results will take.

Good luck for today. Will be thinking of you.

yes, hope it goes well for today.

My scan was inconclusive. Either I'm not as far along as I thought or the embryo stopped growing at four weeks.
The sonographer couldn't find any reason for the bleeding though, so I think that's a good thing.

I need to go back in for another scan in two weeks.

They told me my swabs should be done by Wednesday, so give them a call then and they can tell me the results.

Thanks again for replying.

Oh that's frustrating for you. I had a scan at 6 weeks (knew I was 6 weeks) and they could see a sac. No pole, nothing else. I went back 10 days later and the scan was spot on for dates.

It's just such a long and worrying process.

I had the same experience as SoH, it's frustrating being left in limbo like this, hope all goes well with the swab/scan.
