I'm 11+6 with my 1st and strayed today into an area of mumsnet that I'm beginning to wish I hadn't. A journalist posted a thread asking about traumatic births, using a phrase I won't repeat here. Some of the detail in the replies were truly horrid to read but there were so many it seemed like these experiences are the norm rather than exceptions.

So my slightly premature but panicy question is, are these awful monsters of Drs & Midwives everywhere? Or were the posters just horribly unfortunate to have experienced what they did? I'm not expecting labour to be a walk in the park but I'm also not expecting my DP to have to protect me & our baby from nasty, abusive members of medical staff either.

unfortunate.

but forewarned is forearmed.

i had two reasonably good births and looking forward to my third.

think positive and do your research. make sure your dp does too and that he knows what you want when you're in labour, so that he can let the mw's know.

you were on a thread ABOUT bad birth experiences. so that's why all the posts were about it and why it seemed so awful

if you start one asking people to tell you about their fantastic birth experiences i bet you'd get just as many posts

i had one medoicre birth, and 2 really fantastic ones.

and agree with warthog! make sure you have someone with you who will speak up for you if necessary.
or have a nice homebirth then you get 2 midwives to yourself and they always seem to be lovely

Thanks both, that is what I hoped. Perhaps I ought to listen to my Dr & DP and steer clear of certain subjects on the Internet & talk to MW & Dr instead Blush
