Hi everyone,
Thought I would start a thread for all us mums to be who are due in May 2011 so that we can support each other. xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
birchykel · 21/10/2010 19:07

caz10 how come you had to have an early scan?
Glad everything is ok though. Its really weird as I cant remember alot of my first pregnancy with my girl as it was over 8 years ago (massive age gap hey) but yes the worries go on and on through out their life, before and after their born. Im trying to take it step by step, so dating scan please hurry up so I can move onto the next worry!!!!

Caz10 · 21/10/2010 20:29

I didn't have to, I am just a neurotic worrier!! Grin

I found out I was pg before I was even due my period this time, so it has seemed like a LIFETIME so far, especially with feeling so sick! So I couldn't bear to wait until 12/13 weeks for my NHS one and booked a private one (skinto now but worth every penny) at 8 weeks. Very reassuring, and now I only have to wait 2-3 weeks for the next one!

birchykel · 21/10/2010 21:47

Me too...

How did you go about a private scan then? Was it really expensive? U know what I am going to do now hey lol.
Well im off to research lol. Hope all is well.

£99....Shock...bleee...

I couldn't afford it with dd1, this time round had saved a bit in anticipation. We used Babybond as a friend had recommended it, the other one (and the one I actually wanted to use, but we couldn't get a time to suit) is the Nuffield group

birchykel · 22/10/2010 07:40

wow that is alot but well worth it.
I will have a look into it, thanks.

Well I finally got my date for scan through...15th November...seems a lifetime away but just glad I got it.

Does anyone know why I have this strange pain/ache close to my hip more than my stomach? Every pain I am worried about!!!!

missemmajane · 23/10/2010 14:37

Hey birchykel - my scan is also the 15th Nov, I really didn't want to wait that long so I have booked a private scan too through Babybond. Although its a lot of money I think its totally worth peace of mind!

Ive been getting lots of strange aches and pains all over too - Im going with the thought that if its not severe or with any bleeding im trying not to worry about it and as hubby keeps saying "you are growing a little person!!" - I think these pains are completely normal, try not to worry!

Caz10 · 23/10/2010 20:38

I second the aches and pains, a lot of stretching and moving going on in there! Also sometimes (TMI alert!) I get a pain and get all worried then realise it is digestion/wind related not baby related! Grin Blush

My NHS scan is on the 11th - so almost a full month after my private one - although I still feel sick at the £99 I am so relieved I went, could not have waited until mid Nov!

Has anyone stopped feeling sick yet? (she asks optimistically). I still feel rough as hell, and exhausted too.

birchykel · 23/10/2010 21:25

Thanks guys, I am getting round to thinking that I am being paranoid about every little pain and theres no sign of bleeding so it must be the stretching and growing.

I haven't really had major sickness yet, light headed and off food a little, so guess im lucky at the moment. I am very exhausted too.

As for the scan there is no way I can afford it private, if we wasn't moving in 2 weeks and having to pay a fortune for it then I would def be going for it...so so annoying though.
But will be great to come back on here and see how you guys have got on with your scans so keep updating.

Thanks for advice ladies. xx

suedehead · 24/10/2010 09:08

hi ladies
just thought i'd add my thoughts on the little pains. i've been a bit paranoid about them - calmed down a bit after my dating scan last week though!

i think we all look out for every little twinge, but the fact is that they are just that. all the twinges i've had haven't actually hurt so i think it's just actual pain that we should be wary of.

i've had a few aches in my hips, expecially around 8-9 weeks, which i'm guessing is the relaxin kicking in. also noticed that (whilst i've not been going to my yoga class), some of the poses i sit in at home have got a lot easier!

re private scans, i haven't really considered one actually. i just keep thinking that they've only really been well-used in the last 30 years - our mothers and grandmothers managed fine just waiting until he/she decides to make an appearance. i know about the benefits of the diagnostic testing, and fore-armed being fore-warned, but i think that we all just need to make a concerted effort to calm down and relax during our pregnancies (easier said than done, i know! caz10 - i'm fairly sure that your pattern of worry is the same one most of us will go through!)

Alamaya · 24/10/2010 11:46

Stupid question

Had tingles in my stomach twice this morning. Only for a couple of seconds and tickles me that i have to itch.

Are these the flutters i hear about or just stretching lol

birchykel · 24/10/2010 12:10

Hey all,
This morning have woke up with very period like pains (I would have been due on roughly about this time) but I had a bit of light pinkish discharge when going to the loo. Should I be worried? Well I am very worried, scared of it going wrong. I would be devastated. Went to the loo again a little while ago after having a lay down and there wasnt any pink discharge this time but an ache in my stomach.
Since taking folic acid my bowel movement hasnt been as regular as the ones I am taking also have iron in them. Do you think this could affect it too?

This is all happening and its my girls 8th birthday today, so trying to carry on as normal but so so scared deep down.

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi all,

Just got back from week away to find letter with my dating scan date for Wednesday. Yeay! At least then I'll know if it's real or just imaginary! birchykel I'm new to all this so can't help but all I can say is some bleeding can be normal (from what I've read) so try and relax, enjoy your celebrations and call the midwife/hospital if it gets heavy or you have pain. Sure some of the others can help with more advice though.

TrinityCalling like Teasie I also had to go away for work at 8 weeks, you might have seen my early threads. I spoke to my mw before I went and she suggested I check with travel insurance whether pg was covered, so I gave them a call first. The thing I was most paranoid about was mc-ing and what would happen then given I hadn't told anyone and spoke no Spanish. If you're going with your OH (?) at least you'll have some support!

In the end it was all fine, took loads of snacks with me in my suitcase and made sure I had access to an out of the way loo to be sick in unobtrusively, though I'm sure at least my boss guessed I thought I was pg as 1) was not drinking much 2) he noticed I was eating a crazy amount and all the time 3) was not drinking coffee at all which I love and 4)was not eating shellfish or anything exciting.

Anyway, if all goes well I'll be able to tell work at the end of the week and then will be on here stressing about how to do it!

Bonkerz · 24/10/2010 13:30

hi all, not caught up with thread, hoping that when we start a new thread i may be more involved! LOL
Have just got back off a weeks holiday, have my first scan Tuesday at 3:30pm. Am absolutely terrified something will be wrong.
I still feel pregnant, am suffering with heavy boobs and started leaking already, sickness is still coming in waves, will be at night one day nothing the next then all morning the next day. Smells are making me retch and im really tired too not to mention my waistline disappearing rapidly and my tummy being so hard i feel like i have a six pack!
Im just so scared all of this is in my head and when i lay on that bed they will tell me its all gone. i know its my own issues as that happened in 2005 after seeing a heartbeat at 8 weeks i was told baby was gone at the 12 weeks scan. im still scared adn cant get the reasonable head on me at all.

LabMonkey · 25/10/2010 20:52

I had my 12 weeks scan this morning so we're now pretty sure that we're aiming for 7th May. It was really amazing and even got a big kick. I'm 12+3 today so all arms and legs present and correct with a good heart beat.

Told a few more people now and apart from one "oh I guessed ages ago" (hasn't seen me in nearly 2 months!) everyone has been very positive. :)

cowboylover · 25/10/2010 21:26

Super pleased for you LabMonkey! There is nothing else like it I have ever experienced and I cantwait to have another one already to see how my little wiggle baby is doing Grin

clarabella18 · 25/10/2010 21:41

Congratulations to all those that have had their scans. Just two weeks now till I get mine, I really can't wait just wish it would hurry up!
Still feeling really tired but the sore boobs have passed only to be replaced by incredibly bad headaches and now a bout of sciatica. Oh the joys, oh well only another 6 and half months to go!!

chester21 · 25/10/2010 22:20

just had my 12 week scan today omg it was amazing althoughmy baby isnt to keen on her/his photo being taken kept turning over and showing us his/her bottom. i noe feel like i belong here and not an intruder. congratulations to all us expectant mothers and thank u for all the advice so far and here to more tips and tricks.

BlueWellies · 26/10/2010 05:40

Morning all. I have pg insomnia (again) have been tossing and turning for a couple of hours already worrying out our finances - anyone else do this in the small hours?

Have my scan tomorrow pm, so v. scared but excited too. So lovely to hear that all your scans have been +ve experiences - really hope I can be so lucky too! Fingers crossed, though will be as it is really so know shouldn't worry.

BlueWellies · 26/10/2010 06:30

Me again, does anyone know ballpark how much childcare nursery/childminder is for a baby per day? Can't find any info on web about it and can't ask anyone else as no one knows I'm pg yet. But still worrying finances and know how much I'd have to work part time to be worth paying fees, so that when I discuss with my boss I can have an idea of what would work. I have no idea as all new to this.

emmah194 · 26/10/2010 09:06

Bluewellies - we're in Edinburgh and private nurseries seem to be about £40 for a full day, with slight discounts if you go all week. A friend of mine in Hull used a childminder and only paid £2.60 per hour, which worked out a lot cheaper for her than a nursery. Hope this helps.

trixie123 · 26/10/2010 13:44

Bluewellies in the southeast a childminder can be anything from £3-5 or 6 an hour. Friends I know with nannies (nice cos they are in your house, you have more say and they are only looking after yours so you can get them to take LO to swimming or playgroups etc) pay about £1500 a month. Nurseries I think fall between the two. If you hear of a really good nursery get your LO name down early as the best one near me was full for Sept 2010 by about March.
Obviously it depends what you do and how much you earn as to what will suit you and your little one best. How long are you planning to stay off work?

MoppingMummy · 26/10/2010 15:38

We had a chilminder in Birmingham and was paying her around £3.50 per hour.

12 wk scan is through for Monday, and as I'm also neurotic we're having private nuchal scan on saturday! Thinking we'll tell out two children before the day, so they can come along and see it all for themselves too!

MoppingMummy · 26/10/2010 15:40

childminder (soz)

trixie123 · 26/10/2010 18:05
