Think they first looked for the heartbeat for me at 16 weeks - didn't start measuring the bump til much later, 25 weeks maybe?

DuelingFanjo · 09/09/2010 16:12

I didn't have mine measured until 25 weeks.

They don't hear the heartbeat until 25wks in my area and thats when they measured too, seems very early. I too didn't show until after 20wks

I didn't get my bump measured until 25 weeks. The heartbeat was first checked for at 18 weeks.

I am 20 weeks and had appointment today. They tried to measure bump but couldn't and said it was too early.

goodlifemummy · 09/09/2010 16:44

I had a heartbeat check at 15 weeks, but was warned beforehand not to panic as they can't always hear it that early, then had my bump measured for the first time at 20 weeks - they are dead keen!

GoldenKippers · 09/09/2010 20:19

Where I live they don't measure your bump until 28 weeks.

MissCKitty · 09/09/2010 22:29

I got my bump measured this week, 19+3 cos it's fairly prominant already. And got to hear baby's heartbeat too. Seems like if you've no bump to measure it might be a bit pointless but you'll still be able to hear heartbeat and ask any questions you have.

In my area they dont start measuring bump until 28 weeks. And didnt have heartbeat check until 17/18 weeks.

LittleB · 10/09/2010 12:11

They don't measure bumps here until 28wks either, I asked yesterday at my appt, I'm currently 24wks. They first listened to heart beat at 16wks, lovely to hear!

Dreemagurl · 10/09/2010 12:18

I heard my baby's heartbeat at around 12 weeks - if you're having a 12 week nuchal scan they should show the heart beat as well. Didn't get bump measured until 3rd trimester though, I didn't really start showing till about 20 weeks (although definitely looked like I had put on weight - which I had!) I guess it differs from place to place (and baby to baby) but from 12 weeks on you MIGHT be able to hear the heartbeat - you can always ask your midwife if she doesn't offer, they always have a doppler there. Just beware that as said above, they may not be able to find it that early, although if you have no bump it's more likely they'll hear it as it will be more prominent. Hope that makes sense, good luck! :)

It's not the bump as such that is measured but the height of the fundus which is the top edge of the uterus. You will probably be able to feel it at 14 weeks as a "ridge" just above your pubic bone. Once past 12 weeks the fundus can usually be palpated as the uterus comes above the pelvis.

It usually isn't measured at 14 weeks but it can be felt. Hope that helps.
