Taking arnica tablets for a cesarean

Hi,

I have read that taking arnica tablets are good for the healing process after a cesarean, I am unsure whether I should start taking the tablets prior to the operation or after? The cesarean is booked for the 24th so not sure if i should start taking them now?

Umm I was told not to take them beforehand.

Can't remember why though.

I took them after and have healed pretty well, though I think an elective c/s (which I had this time) is easier to recover from than an emergency one (which I had last time).

I took arnica tablets before having all of my wisdom teeth out (so slightly different!) but I took them several times a day in the week before my op and for a few days after. I had barely any bruising afterwards and healed and recovered very quickly. Convinced they reallt helped.

I'd call Helios Homeopathics - they'd be able to tell you. You'd need to google them for the number.

I took arnica to help with the bruising, can't remember whether it was before or after and also staphisagria, for infection.

Give them a call, they're really helpful

Speak to your midwife. If she says it's ok to take them beforehand then they won't do anything any harm.

They're homeopathic so they don't actually contain any arnica (or any molecules of active ingredients). The tablets will just be a sugar mix, so there's no harm to be done with taking them at any time.

I used them after I had my 2 CS. Think I read something about not taking them beforehand to do with bleeding but can't remember what!

at last a thread with minimal anti homeopathy ranting. i don't know why mumsnetters are so against homeopathy, and if they don't believe in it why they feel the need to rubbish everyone else who comes on MN who does. there's far worse things people could be doing to their bodies.

make sure you get arnica 30c or even 200c, not 6c. i'm sure someone will point out to me that i'm recommending a weaker dose-I know.

japhrimel · 09/09/2010 17:45

It's fine if you want to believe in it, but a lot of people buy expensive homeopathic products with no idea about what they are - e.g. that homeopathic arnica preparations don't actually contain arnica.

Honestly unless any of the posts above have told you the obvious, ignore them.

ASK YOUR ANESTHETIST at your pre-op not your MW, not your DR.

It's this persons job to medicate you and control your outputs throughout the op and after if you have issues.

They know of all meds/herbals that can cause issues and will advise you accordingly whether you can take them, do not take ANYTHING without their say so or knowledge, at all.
