Music: anyone else found this?

My taste in music has changed since becoming pregnant. Odd huh? Anyone else? I used to be all about the rock & oldies (Led Zep, Who, Kinks, Nirvana, etc, etc), now I find myself turning down the volume of a thrashing guitar & prefering R&B and even some...dance tracks!! (always hated this genre before). Is this my version of cravings?! Think I'd rather be chewing on a lump of coal ;-)

I share your previous taste in music and yet Ive found that my 'Labour' playlists consists of mainly Kate Bush, Billy Joel and Sigur Ros.

Ive heard that rock is bad for fetus's and even plants struggle to flourish if you play it to them Confused

I cant explain the dance tracks tho. at. all.

My volume preference has definatley changed, I turn everything down all the time. But also prefer a lot more quiet time, just to think now and then. Where as music used to help me focus.

I've always loved acoustic rock, and that's not changed.

bumps been responding to some older music. Johnny Cash & Doris Day make him/her jump around in there.

I'm tempted to break out some classical music to see how bump responds to it. Never been a big fan myself, but it's worth a try :)

Absolutely!! I agree with the turning down of music but I've also found myself listening to a lot of stuff like Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Aretha Franklin! I just need lots of calm, soulful music!

I have to grit my teeth with my OH as he's still blasting out Alice in Chains spoiling my "zone"!!

That's so weird- I thought it was just me! I totally am finding the same thing with me rock/metal collection and almost can't bear to be in the car when DH has heavy stuff on.
Am finding even dancey stuff like Lady Gaga does the same though, so maybe it is a volume and beats thing?

my mum always tells me the story of when she was pregnant with me and they went to a jazz concert and apparently I went crazy kicking all evening like I'd never done before - they thought I'd be some kind of jazz fan as I was dancing in there but I hate my dad's jazz choices - I think I was kicking to get away from the terrible noise!

angels1 · 03/09/2010 15:38

sorry - that was completely unrelated but just reminded me of the story!

Daisy17 · 03/09/2010 15:52

And me - my brother kicked my mum so hard during a jazz concert that she fell off her chair!!! He loves jazz now though. Smile I'm only 9 weeks but I have a much lower volume threshold and have been finding my choir rehearsala quite stressful as a result. It is weird!

mum2oneloudbaby · 03/09/2010 19:40

i agree with the volume thing but haven't seen a significant change in musical preferences.

Mammie81 I have never heard that about rock music. could have a serious problem then with bump because my dd (2.9) has just discovered a serious love of Queen and The Who can't get enough. Who new that Beelzebub has a dolly put aside for her! Grin
