40+6 weeks and had membrane sweep yesterday

I really hope some1 can help me, i am 41 weeks today and had a sweep yesterday. my midwife said that my cervix was long and soft but could only manage to get 1 finger in. she managed to do the stretch and sweep but with difficulty. i had this done at 09:30 and by 12:00pm i had the brown jelly show and lots of it, i am still getting bits now.
my stomach felt really tight all day and the pressure on my pelvis was really hard.

has any1 been in the same situation and how long did it take before you went into labour or wasnt it successful.

if labour doesnt start i have to be induced in 5 days but really want a natual birth.

can any1 help?

I went into labour 36 hours later. I walked all day the second day - so get off that laptop!!!

i struggle to walk due to having SPD but i did walk alot yesterday but i aint having contractions.

is there chance it could still work then?

I had mine on the Friday morning. Show later that day.
Decided nothing was goi to happen by Saturday evening.
Contractions started Sunday at 2am. Ds arrived by emcs at 10pm.

Hard to tell if sweep worked but most babies arrive 8 days late appRently.

Was u dilated wen u had ur sweep? I have been for a long walk this afternoon bt just feel normal. Not gettin my hopes up as I dont feel any different.
I just feel so fed up now x

Don't think I was dilated. Ds wasn't engaged either - only ever about 3/5. I didn't feel different either.
Take heart in the fact that one way or another it'll happen soon!

Ye I wil either happen on its own or I wil be gettin induced on tuesday 7th but would prefer to have it naturally. Is there anything u did that u think started u off?
Iv done walkin, rasberry leaf tea, evenin primrose oil tablets, hot bath, bouncin on my gym ball, sex....anything else x

aw, I feel for you!but this will pass, honestly!

I had a sweep at lunchtime on the fri, then felt a bit of pressure and tightness etc that evening...then nothing - thought it hadn't worked but waters broke at 8am sat morning

sounds like your mw had a hard job with you! don't worry, just keep doing what you're doing, walk up and down the stairs sideways, bounce on your ball, nice relaxing warm bath, lots of herbal tea...but really, try to get some rest because it will all kick off soon and you'll need your strength! Also try eating pineapple and lots of grapes...might help things along

Don't worry about being induced - i was with dc2 and it was fine, no different from going into labour 'naturally'

Did u have any signs that ur contractions were gona start? Did u have or do anything to get them goin? I still had nothin but my show on wednesday and have just lost all hope in the sweep actually workin... I want to have another 1 today to c if that wud help but not sure if doctors wil do it or if midwifes have to do it. X

I had no signs at all. I went to bed on Saturday night feeling fed up as it hadn't worked. Few hours later it all kicked off!

Relax! Stressing will hold things up I'm sure.

Don't get too attached to your birth plan btw. I did and it dint do me any favours in the long term.

I am tryin to relax and goin to have a nice warm bath and just chill on the sofa. I have had 2 bowel movements in the last 45 mins which isnt normal for me.
Sounds like urs worked within the 48 hours, I had mine at 9.30 wednesday so im past the 48hours now. Im gutted it hasnt worked! X

After goin to the toilet a total of 3 times in 1 an half hours to clear my bowels, I noticed the 3rd time I had lost alot more of my plug, this was different to wot I had on wednesday and alot more of it. Wot cud this mean? X

the emptying bowels thing is def a sign that things are starting up, however slowly! the fact is that you're full term so it WILL happen any time NOW

stop focusing on your sweep - it doesn't work for everyone, your body will do what it needs to do when its ready

so rest up and let nature take its own sweet time.....you'll be meeting your baby soon!

when i went past due date wirh DS my mil got me some clary sage essential oil, put a few drops in warm bath and labour started within 24hrs, told 3 friends over the past year and all have started within 24-36 hrs not sure if coincidence but...there was a discussion on mn few years ago sorry dont know how to link but google clary sage in labour and loads of stuff will come up!! It is now sunday and on wednesday wen I had my sweep I had my show bt then friday an saturday I hav lost loads n loads of my plug, I am not havin any labour pains - that I no of bt do feel like I need to be sick today... I have felt baby push down alot yesterday and durin the night. Cud this be a sign? X
