...how massive I am compared to his wife when she was having her first (I'm currently 13 weeks)

...how big I'm going to be at the end

...how I'll never lose all this baby weight

...how spotty I am

Then I will have no option other than to stab him repeatedly with the blunt end of my chewed up bic biro.

Rant over! I feel a bit better now!

What a douche to say those things!!!

If I were you I'd say to him 'are you also this rude to your wife or is it just me?'

LauraNorder · 02/09/2010 08:15

I had 2 male colleagues that had a very similar conversation with me during my first pregnancy. I was abu 18 weeks and quite big, I remember one guy saying "you couldn't even tell my wife was pregnant at your stage and she was having twins" - great, thanks for that Sad

FWIW Boo81 by the end of that pregnancy I wasn't massive and I did loose the baby weight.

In my second pregnancy I got to 28 weeks, sat in mums and tots with DD, talking about when this baby arrives when another mum said "what baby? had no idea you were pregnant."

I would keep a healthy stock of bic biros on your desk though, will make you feel so much better looking at you ammo store every time he says something! Smile

He's a knob. I think I'd cry just to prove a point.

nickschic · 02/09/2010 10:30

Could be worse ,my boss when pregnant with ds3 wouldnt leave me alone,an elderly chap with very good intentions, kept bringing me cups of tea, sandwiches, chairs and insisted on escorting me around my place of work .......it was a bloody hotel!!! everwhere I went he came with me......his wife used to think it was hilarious and told me thats why she only had 2 dc.

saoirse86 · 02/09/2010 10:32

Am I being OTT or is that actually some kind of workplace harrassment?!
I was sick of people telling me how MASSIVE I am, even complete strangers, then at 35 weeks I had to have a growth scan and it turned out the baby was pretty small and so is my belly.
Put drawing pins pointy side up on his office chair!

sanielle · 02/09/2010 10:43

nickschic thats actually really sweet though, I'd love it if people brought me sarnies all day!

ilovefirelighters · 02/09/2010 10:49

what is it about pregnancy that people think they can comment on our size? they wouldnt dare if we wernt expecting! could you imagine it, 'ooo i think you actually ate 2 pies for lunch didnt you? not just the 1 in there' maybe complain to your boss about how some people in your life are just so rude and say all these horrid things hopefully he might look at himself.

Boo81 · 02/09/2010 11:56

Thanks for all your replies. I think everyone gets treated to some kind of inconsiderate comments during their pregnancy but its no less frustrating having to listen to it!!

I got my own back this morning. He made a comment about my belly and I replied "At least mine is temporary" while looking at his sizeable gut! Ha ha! That shut him up for a while!

Its soo rude. I'm measuring small for my dates and someone at work asked me yesterday when I was due 'to pop' and I said 6 weeks and he said 'god yeah you're huge now'. He then disappeared into the gents, but if he engages with me again I'm going to comment that unlike his baldness at least my bump is temporary...I don't care if he is considerably more senior than me!

Its not acceptable to make comments like that to you Boo81 and I would tell him tbh.

tablefor3 · 02/09/2010 13:24

Elsa - you could comment on his baldness. Or, guilt trip, say something like "actually, I'm measuring small for dates and there has been some concern over this. I've been referred for extra scans [if this is true]." Now that might work.

looblee · 02/09/2010 14:53

Ha ha good comment on his belly. that is the sort of thing I'd think to say an hour after the conversation had ended. I told my boss yesterday I was 13weeks. I said you've probably guessed, i feel and look huge, he said no not at all. He's lying I am sure...ha ha

mrsfred · 02/09/2010 14:58

When I was pregnant with DD1 I kept it a secret (or so I thought) until my 12 wk scan.

When I told the man who sat in the office next to mine, he replied 'I guessed about 4 weeks ago. Your tits are huge!'...!

MadameG · 02/09/2010 16:09

Well done on the gut comment!

My sister was sitting opposite me and my mum recently and she said 'you two look funny, mum is all little and you're all big'. I was really hurt by that. Probably cos my mum is a size 6 as well and I am really not. People need to shut up commenting on our size, its not nice.

PixieCake · 02/09/2010 16:12

What a wanker. Sounds like he has size issues of his own Wink

PipPipPip · 03/09/2010 08:40

There's a nice little bit in the Rough Guide to Pregnancy where the author says something like:

"Remember that how people react to your pregnancy is about them not about you".

When people react strangely to our news, that little mantra really helps!
