Hi I'm 39+2 and had been quite laid back about giving birth. However last week my friend told me that if I wanted to give birth at the MLU I should have booked in. I hadn't been told this, and despite having severe Spd haven't had any other complications. I did see a consultant at 16 weeks due to a history of depression but she said she was happy for me to have midwife led care as at the time everything was fine.
I spoke to my midwife at 38 wk appt, she said she would call MLU as she wasn't sure they would accept me due to Spd. However when she checked heartbeat it was fast and she sent me to hospital for monitoring. She also said I needed to see a consultant as I have very restricted mobility, had swollen ankles, family history of PE and was worried about dvt.
Monitoring was fine but midwives at the hospital decided I didn't need to see a consultant. Wish I'd made a bit more of a fuss. So now I assume I have to go to the normal labour ward.
I think I'm just scared because I don't feel I know what's going on and was mentally prepared for being in the lovely calm MLU. I think I relate the consultant led ward to being a place where things go wrong. Sorry for the long post just want some reassurance really.
