Iron levels test

Hello

I had a blood test at 28 weeks and have been prescribed iron tablets. Do I then get tested again at some point or do the doctors just assume the iron tablets are doing their job?

I am off to have my dinner of steak with watercress salad Grin

You should ask to be tested again in a week or two just to make sure the tablets are doing the job. However I am sure your mid-wife would have said, the baby will be fine as they are getting all the good nutriants first and you are left with whatever they don't need, which is probably very little.I have just had my results back from my 28 wk blood test. I have been overdoing it at work, my white blood cells are high fighting off some kind of infection and my iron is low. I take pregnacare tablets and the advice my midwife told me was to eat more iron rich foods and then i will be tested again at 33wks. I actually wish I have been given iron tablets too as I feel its getting along a bit far in the pregnancy to just leave it to my diet. I have fairly poor eatting habits, if theres cake and chocolate I will eat it! Trying out marmite, seeds, apricots, kale and spinach. I just feel run down and lathargic, 4 weeks left of work and I really am over that now. Oh well good luck to us both on the spinach etc.

Thanks I will ask. I was annoyed it took them so long to tell me the results too.

I didn't even speak to the midwife about it, just got an answerphone message! I have been googling and stocked up on iron rich foods and cut down on tea, I only drink decaff but not sure if that counts or not. I thought it was meant to be really hard to get your levels back up with diet alone so it might be worth asking again for tablets?
