Maternity allowance - what other benefits?

Hi,

I'm just trying to work out our budget for when I go on maternity leave. I've not been at my current job long enough to get SMP so will be getting MA instead - just wondering if anyone has any experience of what other benefits we can get too? I think I should get £80 a month child benefit but not sure about the others. My partner will be working so not sure if we can claim child tax credits straight away? And if we would get a discount on Council Tax? We're renting but presume wouldn't be able to get housing benefit/income support if partner is at work.

Any advice greatly received - sorry I did try to start researching but it's a minefield out there!

Thanks

Depends on what your household income is- You may qualify for housing and council tax benefit.

Yes claim CTC straight away. If you get more than the standard £20 per week look into whether you can claim the Surestart maternity grant.
