Is it o.k. to take female multi vitamins whilst pregnant? They are not prenatal vitamins, Just normal organic multi vitamins..with folic acid etc... I am VERY early stages.

Sorry this is my first pregnancy and i didnt think I could get pregnant so am anxious about doing everything right. :)

No, the maternal ones contain less vitamin A, which is bad for you.

Do take some though. I havent taken mine in about a week and Im getting leg cramps because Im lacking natural goodness!

Make sure you get the pregnancy vitamins instead.

I stopped taking normal vitamins each time I got a positive test and went on to ante-natals vits.

Yeah - you need to exclude vit A, so you should take pregnancy ones instead. Too much vit A has been linked to birth defects. Which is why they also say you should avoid liver, as this naturally contains high levels of vit A.

Agree with the others. Also you may find that your normal tablet doesn't contain enough folic acid as 400iu is recommended for pregnant women (esp 1st 3 months) and this is double the "normal" RDA.

Its true, its actually more important to be careful about this if are are in an earlier stage.

Baby doesnt need so much folic acid in the later stages as development has already happened and baby is in growth mode. (Although keep taking them)
