Daughter pregnant

My daughter is pregnant with her first baby, coming up to 15 weeks.

She's slim and isn't showing at all at the moment. Just wondered how long till she starts to show, or possibly even feels the baby moving?

I've forgotten it all since I had my two...!!

Thanks fluffypoms. So 5 months is about right then? Was that with your first baby?

I think in first pregnancies most people feel movements around 17-20 weeks, with me it was about 17 weeks. As for showing, it really could be any time. I know my normal clothes were not fitting by 15 weeks, but with fairly loose maternity tops some people still didn't realise I was pg at around 7 months...

AhickeyfromKenickie · 23/08/2010 22:30

I was quite slim with first baby (size 10), I didn't show until around 20 weeks and eveen then I just looked a little chubby rather than bumpy. I began to feel movement around the same time.
Congrats on becoming a GM!

Fluffypoms · 23/08/2010 22:33

yes it was my first i was 18 so was slim then size 8. first felt baby move around 17weeks IRC.

lucyjack · 23/08/2010 22:39

Thanks pozzled. So I should be expecting my daughter to show quite soon then.

I just want a bump to fuss over...!

Hi Hickey. So hopefully around 20 weeks semms the norm for showing and baby movement.

I'm actually already a nan. Got two from my son, but I think with a daughter you are much more involved. I watched a bit enviously from the sidelines while my daughter in law was pregnant. Her own mother even got asked to the births while I just hung on to the end of the phone desperate for news.

Didn't find out till the grandkids were a bit older though that DIL's mum had been there. My daughter's told me there's NO chance of being there when she gives birth...!!!

Just 18, fluffypoms? I had my first at 20 but they seem to be leaving it a lot later now for first pregnancies.

My daughter's just turned 30.

When I had my first baby, it didn't occur to me to have anyone other than DP there... about ten minutes into my labour I was crying for my mum, so you never know..!

lucyjack · 23/08/2010 23:09

Well, I'd love to be there really.

My daughter has announced that she's not having pain relief.... Just a bit of gas and air.

Yeah, right....

i was 17 when i found out, and i showed within first few week, as i was only size 4-6 but then it settled down and was tiny by the end, first felt baby move at around 17-18 weeks :)

mumoffourgirls · 24/08/2010 11:17

I was 17 and tiny untill about 6 months then gradually was the size of a house cant really remember when I first felt movement..

Congratulation to your daughter

Im sure when the time comes she will want you there...Smile

RooBear · 24/08/2010 11:21

I didn't feel movemnts or start showing until around 22wks but now I'm 31wks and flump is kicking like crazy and my bump is definately showing!

legallyblond · 24/08/2010 11:28

I was size 8 when I got pg and started showing from about 18 weeks (although I only looked bloated really - the bump didn't come with a vengance until about 20+ weeks).

I didn't feel any movements until at least 26 weeks - I have an anterior placenta and quite strong stomach muscles, which apparently makes a difference.

Congratulations to you and your daughter.
I was a size 8 with my first and 5ft 10, and didn't show till after 20 weeks, had a bloated look from earlier but no obvious bump till after 20.
Kicking with my first came before my 20 week scan, can't remember exatly but wasn't much earlier than that. This one didn't feel any obvious movements till after 20 week scan (straight after), hasn't stopped since, have anterior placenta with this one.

saoirse86 · 24/08/2010 16:28

I was a size 8 before I got pregnant and didn't have to start wearing maternity or bigger clothes until about 17 weeks. People could tell sometimes but usually people who knew me, I think it was mostly my boobs growing so big so quickly. I felt my first movements at 15 weeks but didn't realise until later what it had been. I think that's the case with most women which is why you notice movements earlier in subsequent pregnancies.
I'd also planned to just have my partner at the birth but have started to realise that it might be good to have my mum hanging around too just in case. And I know she'd like to be there.

legallyblond · 24/08/2010 18:58

Agree with thesecondcoming - your daughter may well want and happily acheive a drug free birth. Don't make her feel stupid for wanting that! One of my closest friends has had 3 children and had no drugs at all (not even gas and air!) at any of the births. She had home water births for all of them. It is possible, especially if your daughter has an uncomplicated labour and has done a hypnobirthing course or something like that. Let her do what she wants to do (or at least think what she wants to think for now!)! I suspect that she might get a teeny bit annoyed if you say "yeah right" when she talks to you about her birth plans....

Valbonne09 · 25/08/2010 09:11

My mother did the same when I said I wanted a natural birth, am now 26+2 and it really irks me whenever I think about it. Unsuprisingly she is definitely not invited to the birth!!

Hope that she has a smooth pregnancy and gets the birth she wants. Congrats on being a first time grandmother too!
