Just a headache? Or am I being paranoid?

All useful info/opinions gratefully received...

I have now had a constant headache (front of my head/beind my eyes) since Thurs evening. It is mostly just a dull, annoying ache but occasionally is bad enough to make me want to lie in a quiet room for a while. I am 31+3, well hydrated, sleep makes no difference and with no other symptoms I can think of. Should I be worried? e.g. bp etc?? I have my 32 week check up on Fri anyway, so dont really want to bother anyone uneccessarily before then if its just me being paranoid.

Does anyone have any experience of this or similar? Grin

I had the same but it was caused by dehydration due to HG. It could be your neck or back maybe as that can cause headaches. I would defo get it checked out though sooner rather than later, just to stop you worrying. Hope you feel better soon!

Ring midwife immediately!
Really....not worth risking it.
I had high BP in last pregnancy (which luckily just stayed as that, didn't progress to pre-eclampsia), and this was the symptom they told me to look out for.
HAve you also got visual disturbances?
Swelling of ankles/ feet/ hands?
Does it get better when you take paracetamol?

Anyway, we have a 24-hour contact line here, and they would always rather you ring if you're worried. Get your BP checked and reassure yourself.

not a medical expert, so maybe someone who knows more will come along and tell you something more (or different!)

I would just try and relax until fri when you have your app with the midwife. If you have no other symptoms then it is likely to just be nothing. Main symptoms to look out for are visual disturbances e.g flashing lights, spots in front of the eyes etc. Swelling of the face and ankles. Make sure you mention it to midwife and good luck with everything. Oh p.s do you wear contact lenses because pregnancy can affect the moisture levels in your eyes making you more prone to headaches.

I had this just last week. Had a constant, headache for two days straight - my head punded when I moved, bent down, coughed, when there was any noise at all and nothing helped. I guzzled water, paracetamol and laid down pretty much all day. I called the out of hours doctor and he couldnt find anything wrong with me (no high BP, no swelling, no visual disturbances etc...) he did find out that I had a urine infection though (again, symptomless) and gave me antibiotics. The headaches got much better within a day of starting the course...... ring the doctor or your midwife to be sure....better safe than sorry!

xMrsSx · 23/08/2010 21:52

Hadnt even thought of urine infection tanmu.

I had a day off work today and an extra 5 hours sleep which I really thought would shift it but made absolutely no difference at all.

Am I being stupid not to have taken any paracetamol... I know I can and it's safe and all that, but I just don't like to. This headache is bad, but copeable, more worrying and annoying than anything, though it is worse on occasions (like now when I'm coughing).

You are probably right ragdoll. Just not sure whether to go to work while waiting for Fri, on the one hand it seems to have made no difference having a day off, on the other having a constant headache makes the idea of work NOT a pleasant one (mind you, when is the idea of work pleasant hey??).

Thanks for all the advice ladies! :)

ive posted the exactlet same thing today im not very far along, but keep getting pounding head aches all time and didnt get them in last pregnancy. i have an appointment though at doctors tommorow, they can be down to hormones aswell, but ive been totaly wiped out, somedays can barely move. hope you get better mrsS :)

Sorry... should've clarified. The reason I asked about paracetamol is because, if it doesn't improve when you take one, that could be a flag for pre-eclampsia.

(from what I understand)

I'd say something that's been going on since Thursday needs checking by someone. Especially when you're pregnant.

But maybe I just worry more than other people... :)

xMrsSx · 23/08/2010 22:12

I think we all worry excessively while pregnant picc which is why I posted on here... you can rely on MN for a good ole balanced view on things when you're feeling a bit mental paranoid. Grin

Just an update for anyone else suffering similar probs... went to the GP this morning, bp fine, no protein in urine, but the did find white cells in my urine so tanmu it looks like you were right... it's a UTI.
Thanks again everyone for all your opinions/advice. Smile

ive had the same today mrsS but mine was blood in the urine, dont know what mine is yet there sending it off to get tested further

tanmu82 · 24/08/2010 20:50

xMrsSx glad you've sorted it out and it's nothing serious....though I would say that the course of antibiotics I just finished has given me thrush - cue another dose of meds (this time pessary and cream) The joys of pregnancy eh?!

xMrsSx · 24/08/2010 21:36

They have sent my wee off to the wee testing shop too beckie I suppose they want to make doubly sure they give you the right antibiotics during pregnancy??

tanmu I will keep an eye out for the thrush! Wink

aww glad you got it sorted and all is ok. I was just lookin at it from a pre-eclampsia p.o.v. So sorry for bad advice! Try and have the probiotic drinks or yoghurt. They are really good at helping to prevent thrush when taking antibiotics.
