Brown Discharge during First Trimester

Hi All I was wondering if anyone has experienced brown discharge during their first trimester? This is my first pregnancy and pretty much from the minute I found out I've had brown discharge, mainly when I wipe but sometimes in my underwear. It's not every day but I'll have it for a couple of days and then it will disappear and then come back again. I've had no pain. I was sent for an early scan at around 6/7 weeks and everything was fine. They saw a heartbeat :) I am booked for my first proper scan next Friday but I've been having the brown discharge again for the past couple of days. I've spoken to my doctor who isn't too concerned as I'm not heavily bleeding bright red blood and I have no pain but obviously I'm still worrying! Just wondered if anyone else has had this and gone on to have a healthy baby?

Hi. I had brown discharge on the day I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks. I then went on to have bright red spotting from 7 weeks, every week til 12 weeks. I also had period cramps alot up to 16 weeks. Im now 30 weeks and all is going really well. It does annoy me as all the books/doctors say that bleeding is bad. I know it can be bad but Ive heard of plenty of people who have experienced this and its all worked out fine. I had a MMC with my first pregnancy and didnt have any bleeding at all.
Good luck :)

Hi Jessy, congratulations on your pregnancy.

I also had brown discharge during the first trimester. It wasn't consistent during that time but on-and-off: fairly continuously from weeks 5-7, then nothing for a couple of weeks, then sporadically until week 11. Like you I had no pain, and early scans. The doctor thought it likely the bleeding was nothing to worry about and tried to put my mind at rest, but like you I still found it worrying.

I haven't had my baby yet but am 29 weeks and have had no brown discharge in the 2nd trimester. I did have a very small (red) bleed at 23 weeks which also turned out to be fine. The baby seems to be doing well and is certainly kicking lots!

So, although I know it can be very anxiety-provoking, I would try to put your mind at rest. I think some women just get this and it's hard to tell exactly why. It's worth keeping an eye on but probably nothing serious. Good luck!

Thank you excitedmummy2be and Pidgin and so pleased that your pregnancies are going well :) Hopefully I am worrying over nothing and I must say I feel loads better after hearing your stories. I have also checked loads of other forums and brown discharge (and even bleeding) tends to be very common. Fingers crossed my scan next week will show a healthy baby! xx

Hi everyone. I am pregnant and I have been experiencing Brown discharge since the day I got a positive result. When I spoke with my doctor about it he prescribed duphaston, metformin(I was on this drugs before I conceived) and cyclogest (was just added) but yet the discharge haven't stopped. I am worried because I had M/C last year with this same brown discharge. I am worried gone for scan and they didn't find anything. Please, anyone with this signs and drugs that have had safe pregnancy.?Thanks
