I have bled a bit today

I think i am about 8 weeks pregnant. Have been down to my birthing centre, and I am booked in for blood tests and a scan on thursday

It is not heavy at all, but it is bright red and watery. I have to go for an anti D jab on thursday if I haven't miscarried.

Has anyone else had this happen? It all started after me and dp...you know. I think it has just about stopped now anyway.

Yes, it happened to me. Twice in this pregnancy. Same as you described. As long as it's not heavy and has stopped and isn't accompanied by pain, try to stay calm. My midwife explained that the cervix becomes more vascularised in pregnancy and can sometimes these vessels can be easily irritated.

Hiya Colditz - i'm about 8 weeks too and I was talking to a friend who had a bleed around the same time. She said that it was ok and that she was advised not to have sex again until at least 12 weeks. I think you'll be fine - but might want to put dp on a ban for the next 4 weeks

yep - to me too - I worked out it was about the time I would have had a period - whether that was anything to do with it I don't know. Anyway my GP made me stay in bed for a fortnight (I had two other little ones) I got well looked after and quite enjoyed the rest.

Anyway, he's 29 now!

Hiya colditz! my sister had this with both her pregnancies and was obviously really worried, but she now has a healthy 2.5 year old son and a 11 week old daughter! Hope its sorts itself out soon hun! xxx

Sure everything will be fine but agree with swiperfox, probably good idea to leave the naughty stuff out for a few weeks

Can I just ask about the anti D, why would you need it if you haven't miscarried? I've had to have one after miscarriage but can't see why you'd need one if everythings ok?

Hi Colditz.Sorry to hear you've been bleeding.It happened to me with both my dd's at 8 wks & 10wks.The hospital never did find out why,but one theory was cervical erosion as expatinscotland described,the other was breakthrough bleeding at the time my period would have been due.

I had anti d too.Not much fun is it?

I had this twice in last pregnancy at 9 and 10 weeks, 9 weeks was an awful lot of blood loss 10 weeks less so. Bub was fine.

Oh, lord, I went for the anti d today and my bottom hurts soooo much!

Now for the part.

I have an extreme phobia of having needles. the wonderful midwives had to give me 10 minutes of gas and air before I could let them near me.

I just hope they will let me have the gas and air before they take the bloods, or I just cannot have them done. I try so hard, but I was sobbing when I left the house, hysterical by the time I got there, and when I heard her put the gloves on I freaked out.

So they gassed me and it worked marvelously.

No further bleeding though, and I have a good feeling, so......here's hoping!

Colditz - they could use EMLA cream which anaesthetises the skin so you don't feel the needle. Hope you are feeling better

Nooo, Mears, it doesn't work, I can feel that needle before they put it in!

I am not scared of the pain, I am scared of the needle!

When I had ds2 I had Emla cream to have a drip put in. Only went and had such a quick labour that I got to the hospital to late to use it!!!!!!!!!!!

We refer women to a counsellor when they have needle phobia - has that been suggested?

I used Emla with my last pregnancy - I think I have become even more phobic since then. And it didn't do much then.

I hate being scared of needles, I cry before hand because I am terrified, and afterwards because I am so ashamed of myself.

Yes, I will have to go through my gp though, and he is a little bit prescription happy.

I just couldn't believe how easy it was with the gas, I just didn't care! If I knew I could have the gas for every needle, it would take nearly all the stress out of pregnancy for me. I don't think they will allow it though, it mu7st be a dreadful waste of resources

Colditz, very glad to hear everything seems OK.

DH is the same re needles - just asked him if not feeling the pain of the needle would help and he said no, it's not the pain, it's the needle!

HM, your dh has it exactly! An arachnophobe would feel no less scared because they knew a spider wouldn't hurt them. It's the object, not the pain. that's why phobia's make absolutely no sense.

Having a hypodermic needle break my skin is as repulsive to me as putting a maggot up my bottom. Normal people just don't allow unless there is no choice.

Scan results show a healthy 8 + 2 fetus with a strong heartbeat.

See, I know when I conceived, even if nobody in the medical profession believed me!
