raspberry leaf tea... where to get it?!

I want to get some raspberry leaf tea, but my local (HUGE) supermarket doesn't stock it.

The only place I've found it so far is a tea shop, and they want £2.50 for 20 bags... wtf?!

Admittedly I've only started looking for it, so not ready to give up just yet! But is it something I can get in a supermarket or is it only available in health food shop-y type places?

local herby shop?

or Holland and Barrett

:)

oooh, and when do we start drinking it again?

merlin8878 · 19/08/2010 16:49

I've got the capsules from Holland and Barrett. 100 capsules for about £6.50. You can take them as a capsule or open them out and make it into tea.

Also saw them as tea bags in Julian Graves yesterday. About £1.70 for 20 bags.

I've never seen them in the supermarket, but then again I've never really looked for them there.

I'm 35+3 with DC3 and have been taking them for the last 5 weeks - a little earlier than previous pgs, but I went way over with both and can't face going over this time.

I thought it doesn't bring labour on, but makes it shorter when it does start? What dose do you take?

littleshinyone · 19/08/2010 17:08

beware!!!

it stained my teeth (was drinking 3 cups a day of the holland and barrett stuff for 1 week before I noticed and stopped)

mostly gone now, but still slightly there between the teeth

oh, and I went 12 days over Grin

I think that most supermarkets only stock Raspberry Tea and not Raspberry LEAF tea...

I saw it onsale on the NCT shop online.

I also think I recall that you can start drinking it from 36 weeks.... But best wait for someone else to confirm that as I am not 100% sure..

Thanks for the responses so far :)

Sounds like the capsules might be better then, but as per lurcherlover, how many do you take?

I got the loose tea from my local health food shop for £1 something so really cheap. Started at 32/33 weeks with one cup a day increasing to 3. It doesn't make you go into labour any earlier. I was induced with first but labour was very quick.

As an aside, is raspberry leaf tea ok to drink if you are VBAC? Or would it put more strain on the uterus? I'm thinking uterine rupture...sorry to hijack!!

merlin8878 · 19/08/2010 19:50

Theres a guide on the back of the capsules saying to take between 3 and 6 capsules a day.

I started off with 1 or 2 a day and have gradually built it up.

Sorry, no idea about taking it if you're going for a VBAC. Might be a good idea to check with your MW or consultant first.
