Right. I am thinking waaaaay in advance here but thought I'd start to stock up in preparation for new LOs arrival. My maternity pay is pants and money will be really really tight when i finish work so thought I'd start stocking up now. I know some people will think it bad luck etc but needs must.

So far I have bought bottles, muslin squares, dummies, breast pads, maternity pads.

We have ds and have kept changing mats, moses basket etcmsomitsmthe 'new born' stuff I'm thinking of anything that means Incan buy now while on full pay and not have to get when on maternity pay if that makes
Sense. Any ideas anyone?

I started stocking up on nappies and wipes. And little things like baby shampoo or bubble bath type stuff.

I buy a pack or two of wipes each time I shop, and/or a pack of nappies but different sizes. If you're planning on bottle feeding, how about a pack of formula each time?

It might add £10-£20 or so to each shop, but at least you're chipping away at things.

I have stocked up on nappies brought several packs in each sz 1-4+, will have to buy more sz 3 and 4 I am sure but just spreads the cost.

We have 69 packs baby wipes as well!!

Baby is being born next thurs by c-section.

We wanted to buy what we could before baby arrived and my maternity pay kicks in as I am the main earner so we thought the same as you best get what we can on 2 full time wages.

Another thing I brought not that I plan to use jars and packets but boots had some reduced and got box baby rice and baby cereal for 50p each and 10 jars of varying foods for 20p each - all with best before dates from april 2011 so well into when baby will be weaning.

It will be a long time before i am ready for weaning - Im not actually due until Feb (I just like to be organised) Unfortunately I will be back at work by the time my LO is ready to be weaned, but thats a whole other issue

I have a couple of tins of formula already but plan to continue picking them up every now and again. My mother in law has started to buy nappies and baby shampoo etc although I think I will stock up on a few packs when I go shopping too. Wipes is a good idea. Cant believe that didnt occur to me. 69 packs eastmidlands wow thats being prepared lol

Keep them coming, if nothing else it makes me feel a little less insane for stocking up so soon - my dh thinks I am mad!

I got formula stocked up early - sma, but when my twins were born early, they couldn't tolerate sma, and had to go on to cow and gate, so be careful of over-buying formula! Luckily Tesco were really good about giving me a refund.

Maybe if you're not too sure what you might need (re the formula point, for example) you could just start putting aside a little bit of money each week into a savings account and then buy in bulk later with your little nest egg?

I'm buying nappies and wipes gradually and often they have good offers on them, also stocked up on my infacol and teething gel.

Look out for the NCT nearly new sales you can get some good stuff at them for next to nothing you don't have to be a member to go either but if you are a member then you get in first.

If you are really skint then bfing is dead cheap. In fact I think you can get the milk for free

EMNN - seriously, you've already bought size 4+ nappies for a newborn? My son still only uses size 4 and he's two!

you must have a lot more storage space than me :)
I'd also be wary of stocking up too much in case a particular brand of whatever it is turns out not to suit your baby. If those wipes give him a rash, or those nappies leak, you'll be stuck...

i've got one of those tins that you put money in and have to open with a tin opener. They are brill coz it means you don't dip into it for the window cleaner etc. Another idea is to save up your Boots points or tesco clubcard vouchers until baby is born.

Boots points is a great idea. I have got a couple of bottles of infacol, went through loads of it with ds, teething gel I hadn't thought of though!

Puddock, that happened with DC1. Never could use wipes on him, ended up using cotton wool and water then making my own wipes.
