Swimming pools/Jacuzzis!!

Have been taking 2dcs to local pool over the hols, there are several smaller pools that have bubble jets, my younger dc loves these. I was there today and 2 pregnant women walked by saying "ooh I don't go into them any more because I'm pregnant".

I always thought you were told to avoid jacuzzis because of the heat not the actual bubbles, these pools are warm but obviously not roasting. Any advice.

New one on me this. I can understand if someone said about a sauna and how you might feel but I used jacuzzis at my local gym right up to the end without any bad comment or any side affects.

However that was 11 years ago and you know how advice changes! All I can say is that I enjoyed especiallly in the last couple of months when going round the gym was an effort!

jacuzzis are bad because of the heat, bubbling in pool is fine.

Ah there you go!! Things were different in my day!!! (JOKE!)

Brillant - thanks, just as well the other pregnant women didn't see me guzzling coke and scoffing down a sausage roll of questionable origin afterwards Grin

I could be totally off on this, but I'm sure I've read that it can be dangerous to get air up inside your....erm....lady bits. Forget the reason behind this, but women are told not to stick a power shower jet on certain settings sort of in that direction too strongly as there's a potential risk of this from doing that. Maybe there's a theoretical risk of this from the bubble jets in the bubbly pool if you sit/move in a certain way??? This is the only thing I can think of as to why a pregnant woman moght not go in - they are being extra careful about this....I could be completely wrong though Confused and it wouldn't put me off Wink

They must have assumed they were heated i'm sure.. If bubbles damaged the baby I couldn't get in the pool with DH Grin

Really ?? Bubbles are Fine? I have a jaquzzi bath and havent used the bubbles since i found out i was PG!! Im 39 weeks - Bugger!!!

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 19/08/2010 14:35

The advice I read was due to the heat and actually no jacuzzi I have been in has been as hot as I have my bath!!

I went away at the weekend at 37+5 wks and enjoyed the jacuzzi and stayed at the same place when I was 29wks and used it then also.

I had no problems and think you have to make your own decisions sometimes.

I didnt use sauna or steam room as these are very hot and would be dangerous but cant see how jacuzzi would be.

Maybe it is to do with not getting air up there, which you arent supposed to do while pregnant. SO I suppose bubble jets are fine so long as you don't have too much fun with them Blush

CluckyKate · 19/08/2010 15:27

Bubbles up your fanjo bad for the baybee - I've never heard anything so ridiculous Confused

Here's the official NHS advice - avoid saunas, jaccuzzis etc. due to risk over over-heating, de-hydration & fainting:

www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/2402.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=131

So, wigglesrock you're absolutely right - hope this puts your minds at rest Smile

Hot baths are out as well though - it's not just jacuzzis that you have to think about.

angels1 · 19/08/2010 16:37

My Doc said hot baths were fine so I get utterly confused with all this!
