Can anyone let me know if I would be at risk for sleeping in a bedroom or being in a flat that has just been painted whilst 9 weeks pregnant. We recently went on holiday and had our whole flat painted, it was finished 3 days before we got back but since we have got back I have been worried about the exposure to being in it as I am only 9 weeks pregnant. The painter used oil and water based paints and I have heard exposure to the oil ones can be dangerous while pregnant but does anyone know the scale of the risk of whether the fumes are still being omitted now the paint is dry? We are keeping it well ventilated and I am sleeping with the window open but the smell is still incredibly strong! thanks for any advice.

I'm fairly sure there is a lot of painting done by pregnant women getting nurseries ready. I wouldn't worry.

I painted three rooms of my house when I was pregnant with DD and she appears to be fine (3 now). Never used oil based though, so hopefully someone can give you advice about that.

you should be fine, they will be fully cured by now i should think.

I wouldn't worry personally I painted DD 1's bedroom while pregnant used water and oil based paints. Keep your windows open to help air the house. Paint can smell for a while afterwards but it's not the same as when it's actually wet and drying and especially in the early weeks your sense of smell will be heightened. But ask your GP or midwife if your really concerned.

not that there's anything you could do about it now anyway.

I painted our entire flat when I must have been around 2 weeks pregnant and didnt know yet. Was glossing and sanding, the lot. I had it all over me!

So far, pregnancy is fine and normal! Dont worry too much Smile

I painted the house when pg with my first born, he's now 22 and doing ok, well, he will be once he comes out of prison, the detox alone in there will have helped. Try not to worry x
