23 weeks - pain under left ribs

Hi there

I sleep on my side but when I sleep on my left side I develop an aching pain just under my left ribs. I don't get the same when I sleep on the right side.

I have had some investigations in the past in my kidneys and was told I had some swelling in the left Ureter valve which goes from the kidneys to the bladder but it was decided that I didn't need any further investigations or treatment.

So I just wondered if anyone would know, is this kind of pain at this stage of pregnancy is just normal (maybe baby's feet under my ribs?) or if it might be that my organs are getting squished and so previous problems are made worse?

Am going to mention it to the midwife next week but just generally wondering if other people get these pains and if they are located on one side only and only happen when lying on a particular side?

Hi

Not sure what could be the cause, but just wanted you to know that you are not alone. I am 26+5 and also have pain under my left rib that is not constant, but stops me from bending over etc i too wonder if it's a baby's foot or maybe if i've caught my muscle under my rib (someone told me this was possible Hmm

If you are worried maybe you could ring your midwife and see what they say.

I'm sure some other MNers will have some more experience and advice than me

Hi

I've had pain on my right side - 23+3 - and it's stopped me sleeping on that side the past two nights. I wake up when I roll over. Last night I even found it hard to lie on the sofa which is a catastrophe Grin I thought it might be some ligament stretch. I'm not worried about it - if it continues I think I might go to a cranial osteopath. I'm seeing midwife next week.

I wouldn't worry. I'm fairly small and narrow and like a friend of mine, who told me that around now her body started to ache and change a bit to make way for the baby etc. Lovely!

I had this with my first pregnancy and can feel it happening again now. With my first from about 23/24 weeks I started getting an ache below my ribs - for me it was my right side and it was when I was in a certain position like in the car. It was really painful by the end. My midwife said it was probably just feet and organs pushing up against me and it was - my daughter was born on the 98th percentile for length so it was defo her long legs poking me.
Very uncomfy though and I don't have a solution for it but I did spend a lot of time sat up straight on my birthing ball or lent over it which seemed to ease it.

Ah - many thanks. I have measured bigger than my dates all the way through so perhaps I have a particularly long and wriggly baby in here. Was head down at the 20 week scan so mayvbe it is feet haveing a shove Grin

I'll speak to the midwife for reassurance but thank you mumsnetters, you've been very helpful :)
