If so, when you lay down, where does your bump 'finish'? Is it above or below your belly button? TIA x

Above definitely. I am 26 weeks now but has been above for a long time. Since about 16 weeks if I had a full bladder Grin

i am 22 weeks, and its about 2 cm above belly button. Why?

japhrimel · 18/08/2010 09:02

Above definitely and we saw a consultant last week who said my fundal height was normal.

Are you lying on your back? My bump slips down when I do this, but that's partly why I can't stay on my back - end up breathless and dizzy from the pressure on blood vessels!

lullabellesmummy · 18/08/2010 09:04

I was wondering because I'd read it should be around 1.5 - 2 inches above at around 24/25 weeks. Now, when I lay down, my bump starts to tail off at my belly button (but I feel kicks higher than this). But, obv I can't see under the skin and haven't got a clue what I'm feeling for. I am 5ft 11 and pre preg weight was 9st 10 so this is definate bump plus I have always had a problem getting trousers long enough in the crotch. Wondered if this might have something to do with it or am I measuring small.

What the measurements are for is your fundal height - how high your uterus is. How big your actual bump is on the outside is affected by lots of things, including when you last ate! And the fundal height is measured from your pelvic bone, so anything that says about how far it is above the belly button will be working on a "standard" pelvis-belly button length. I wouldn't worry about it, especially as you're tall.

Im 25 weeks - 2nd PG and my bump is much bigger than last time at this stage, and I havent put on more weight -

I can feel my uterus about 2 inches above my belly button. Dont be converned though, as my MW told me they dint even check fundal height til 26 weeks x

lullabellesmummy · 18/08/2010 09:28

Do they measure fundal height when your flat on your back? When I was pg with my dd, my midwife never measured my fundal height with a tape measure (big issues with previous midwifery care, unfortunately I have the same midwife but I am much more cautious and wary this time).

When I am stood up 1st thing in a morning, bump is much higher than my belly button.

Thanks ladies for your replies x

At my 22 week appointment, the doctor didn't measure me, but had a feel when I was lying propped up on my back. Have a prod and see if you can work out where the uterus ends.

lullabellesmummy · 18/08/2010 10:24

If I'm doing this right, then it starts to tail off about 1cm above my belly button. But bump is definitely growing as one lady so kindly put it at work - "oh my god, your huge"!!! Next appt with my midwife is not until 28 weeks but if this doesn't change over the next week or two, I'll give her a ring.
