SPD worse- baby engaged?

Hi, 1st time I've started a thread, hopefully someone out ther can give me some advice or reassurance!

Im 37+1 and have severe SPD (I use crutches and a wheelchair), however in the past week the pain has got worse. I get shooting pains down my leg and in my pelvis even when I'm not moving about and wondered if this is because the baby has engaged? I had a Dr's appt last week at 36+3 and it wasn't engaged then, although I had had some pain before that appt.

If you've had SPD, did it get worse when the baby engaged? Is this related to the SPD or is it just "normal"? How can you tell if the baby is engaged? (confused)

I have felt more movement low down, although I'm still getting kicks in my ribs. I really, really, really dont want to be induced, but I'm not sure I can cope with this level of pain for the next 3-5 weeks. Any answers or advice would be very gratefully recieved.

Hi there

Not sure how much help I can be, but I can fully sympathise with the SPD. I am 30+4 and I have SPD, though not as severely as you have it. As I am a bit behind you, I thought I would just post to say that I also find that as the pregnancy is progressing, the pain is becoming more localised around the pelvis. I imagine that the SPD might make what I think is a normal part of pregnancy more exaggerated. I wake up at night with pains down my legs and have done since I first started to get the SPD.

However, I am a first timer too and I have no medical background so this is just opinion. I always qualify a post by suggesting that, if in doubt, contact your midwife/physio/GP.

If you are in severe pain, you have to think of yourself and what might be best for you. Easier said than done though, I know.

Good luck.
