Really worried... belly not growing

Hi guys,
I am four months pregnant. IN the week when I am drinking loads of water my belly look four months pregnant.. however, I woke up on Sat morning and Sunday morning and it looked like my belly was nearly flat.
At night when I lie on my side I can feel really dull wriggle just below my belly button. Is this the baby?
Should I be worried my belly is going up and down so radically?

Someone who is better informed will probably be along in a minute but I wouldn't be worried. If this is your first then it's not at all surprising that you don't have much of a belly yet - your muscles are holding everything in there! :)

I also remember my bump being bigger at night than it was in morning - I've no idea why - something to do with gravity I think!

I didn't start properly showing till well over 20 weeks, so don't worry too much. A dull wriggle sounds like it could well be the baby, I first felt it as a twitchy nerve sort of feeling, like you sometimes get in your eye when you're tired - then it turned into more of a flutter.

RoxyLady · 16/08/2010 10:09

Yes I have had that aswell!!! I can definately feel a dull wriggle

Enjoy the lack of bump because it will come Grin. It will be baby you can feel fluttering around, sometimes when you drink alot it does make your belly swell a little.

I will wait for the thread when you say you are feeling so fat and uncormfatable Grin Grin, good luck.

Congratulations! All sounds about right! Have no fear - the baby will take over your abdomen soon enough Grin.

I'm 15+4 and if it's the evening after a day of eating, my stomach looks dramatically pregnant.

However in the morning, it's a lot smaller. That worried me at first, but my stomach never used to go up and down like that, so it seems to be symptomatic of pregnancy.

And as zippy539 said, nobody seems to expect first pregnancies to show so much.

I was the same, my belly would look proper pregnant by the evening, but would start the day looking like I was just a bit more podgy than normal. It will start getting a bit harder around 20 weeks or so - when your uterus is up to your belly button and pushing against your abdominal wall.

The wriggling could be the baby!! I first felt it at 20 weeks.

cardamomginger · 16/08/2010 10:37

Don't fret if you can't find the heartbeat - it can be quite an art to pin in down, particularly in the early days (even for MWs), and to distinguish the baby's heartbeat (will sound like a galloping horse) from your own that you will hear because of the placenta.

pinchmeimustbedreaming · 16/08/2010 10:45

hahaha spot on cardamomginger i think we could have a lil tinker on our hands as i can never feel heartbeat and even mw take a good 20/30 mins to find it! through all the kicks that is!
roxylady sounds like you are like every other expectant mummy out there. these concerns are good, they show you are going to be a very good loving mummy that just wants the best for her child!! :o

excitedmummy2be · 16/08/2010 10:50

Don't worry at all. At 4 months alot of your swollen belly may well be bloating or water retention, which will come and go. I remember always asking DH if he thought my belly was shrinking!! I'm now 29 weeks and I am huge. I work with a girl who is due the day before me, she didn't show until quite recently and even now doesn't look obviuosly pregnant. Sounds like everything is going great... You're just at the stage when your body doesn't offer alot of comfort, you're not really showing yet and baby is big enough to feel all the time. It will come... Don't worry :)

I am preggers with my first and I was flat as a pancake until I hit 7 mth. Am now 34 wks and I can't believe how massive I am. I looked a little bit preg. and literally overnight, got tons of stretchmarks and a massive bump :)

notjustalawyer · 16/08/2010 18:32

I'm so glad that other people are worried about this - I'm 19+3 and to other people, I just look like I've put on weight! I was getting worried as one of my 'lovely' friends said that everyone else she knew was much bigger by this stage - good to hear that's not the case. :)

QueenofDreams · 16/08/2010 18:36

Well I envy you, I really do. I just seem to carry huugge! On the other hand, I had a friend whose bump never showed, it was tiny. She never even had to wear maternity clothes!
