35 weeks and period pains

Hi Everyone

I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with my first baby. For the last few days I've been feeling occasional period pains, just a dull ache that feels as if I am getting my period.

Today though, it has been worse with pain radiating into my lower back and lingering for longer. I've also been getting braxton hicks tightenings more often and at times the baby feels like it is very low.

I was told at my antenatal class last week that this week the baby could start to engage and was wondering if this pain is related to that? Has anyone else experienced this?

I had pain on DS1 like this, it was just likemperiod pains but worse if I walked, like it was being grated by a cheese grater! Ouch, I remember it now!

If there is anything that is concerning you though, just give your midwife a quick call.

Good luck for the birth!

Oh... Just keep a check on the babys movements from now, but I'm sure you've already been told that. If he/she shows less movement than usual, then it won't hurt to call.

I'm not an expert, but comparing this to my own experience, it could be signs of labour. A few days before i went into labour I got quite random period type pains. They weren't too bad, just a dull ache. Then slowly but surely they got worse until it actually dawned on me what was happening.

Are they getting slightly worse as time goes on?

Any signs of a show? i started passing this stuff for 10 days before I gave borth and these aches. started about two or three days before.

I distinctly remember sitting in the car waiting for DD to come out of pre school and I got a real contraction type ache. Then nothing for a couple of days.

Thanks for your advice. I haven't had any signs of a show and the baby is moving about ok. I'll keep an eye on it and try to rest more tonight. Am hoping it's not the beginning of labour- my DP and I are in the process of moving house and are staying with my in-laws while having work done on the new house. It would be sod's law that this would happen now!

Hi,

I started with period type cramps at 30 wks and tightenings for a few hrs. Then at 31 wks they started at my ante-natal appointment and I was taken to delivery suit put on a monitor and later sent home, the midwife said I had an irritable uterus.

I'm 33 wks now and have period like cramps then an hr later the tightening start again accompanied with back pain, these have increased in the amount of time they last for over the past wk. I also get that really heavy feeling down below and sometimes feel like she will just pop out Shock. I've been taking parcetamol but the midwife said If I feel that this is not getting rid of the pain to go back. I've not had a show as of yet and I'm just keeping an eye on things.

Hope all goes well for you :)

I'm 33+6 and have been having lots of period type pains over the last few days. Also regularly, but not constantly, feeling a lot of pressure down below. Nothing else except for being very very tired. LOTS of movement. I know period type pains are supposed to be a sign of impending labour but I hope not for me, I've got lots to sort out, decorating, helping my sister (who's 34+5) move house. I have put all this to the baby but not sure if she's been listening.
