I am six weeks and 2 days pregnant and had my first ultrasound yesterday. Everything was great the heartbeat was 114bpm but when I go to the bathroom I spot dark brown blood. Is this normal?

probably implantation bleeding, which is common, yes.
if it becomes bright red blood that might be more concerning. very unusual to be offered a scan so early in a pregnancy (even if you have a history of miscarriage ) - you have a generous health care trust! lovely that they were able to see a heartbeat so early.

So as long as the blood stays brown its okay? I'm assuming its just all of the old blood coming out. I had a miscarriage in november and I had heavy bright red bleeding and horrible pains! I just didn't know of this was a cause for concern. I have read online that once a heartbeat is detected chances of miscarrige go down dramatically.

I had this at exactly the same point in early pregnancy. The baby is now kicking me at 20 wks! Smile

Implantation blood can come out with a bit of a delay, hence it's brown, and often a while after implantation happened. I know it's stressful after a previous MC to see anything like that in your pants - I had two MCs before having DS and to see blood, even brown, on the loo paper this time was horrible.

It's true that seeing a heartbeat means the likelihood of MC goes down a great deal, though it's not impossible. But if the blood stays brownish, no clots, no cramping, I think you'll be ok. I'd go to the GP and see if you can get another scan to reassure you though. Why did you have an early scan in the first place, btw?

Good luck, I'm sure it'll be fine. Smile

I'm not real sure my ob doctoe sceduled me one for six weeks, twelve weeks, and sixteen weeks! They reassured me when I told them about the bleeding that it was old blood when it is brown and could be implantation bleeding or from placenta attachment. They said any time the cervix is bruised from sex it can cause it also. Since I hears the heartbeat and no pains and since its brown I'm more confident about things!
