Brownish smear when I wipe - help please

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/08/2010 22:02

I'm 7 weeks pg and just this evening I've had a brownish smear when I've wiped after weeing.

There is some lower tummy pain but not like period pains - it's similar to what I remember with DS and that was stretching pains.

Should I bother trying to get a scan or just wait and see what happens?

I am already worried because I have only been queasy rather than sick - when I was pg with DS I was having really bad sickness by now. Also, boobs aren't swollen at all, although they are a bit sore when I BF DS.

:( :(

I had this with both of mine, and both went very overdue Grin
Try not to panic

every pregnancy is different so u wont nesseseraly feel same as what you did with your 1st.
see how you go it might just be a one off but if you get anymore tomorow i'd call your midwife.
i had bleeding at 6 weeks with my last pregnancy and it was on and off for a week and it was bright red blood they put that down to implantation, because there was no other explanation

Meglet · 08/08/2010 22:08

I had this when I was pg with DS. Lots of mild spotting until about 3 months. The pregnancy was fine otherwise.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 08/08/2010 22:12

Oh thank you!

I'm going to see what happens over the next 24 hours and then maybe phone the Drs. DH starts a new job tomorrow and all our childcare is abroad so I'm not keen on rushing off for a scan really - what will be will be I guess.

I do feel much better to know lots of other people have had this too and everything has been fine :)

Ali, I had this for the whole of my first trimester with ds3. He has turned out fine!Grin I did have placenta praevia later in the pregnancy but the earlier bleeding was nothing to do with this. My obs thought it might have been caused by a cervical erosion.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 09/08/2010 09:38

Thanks for the reassurance last night everyone :)

I've not had anymore spots overnight, and I feel much sicker this morning than I have so far and my sense of smell has gone into overdrive so I'm going to take those as good signs.

That's fab news. My memory kicked in last night as really my pregnancies are a bit of a haze due to sleep deprivation Wink but with my first (dd) I was extremely sick. WIth ds, nothing. But when I had brown streaks, I had a fab fab GP who referred me for a very early scan at about 6 weeks iirc. It might be worth calling them just in case, the wait for me was only a few days which I was really amazed , and the reassurance was great.

coraltoes · 09/08/2010 10:21

Hello!
I had exactly the same around 7 weeks and had an early scan. Was told not to worry at all unless I had heavy bleeds more than a period. That spotting/brown when wiping is totally normal. I have had it once more since and not worried at all now I know the medical advice.

glad you're feeling better (well sicker but you know what i mean Grin )

Mahraih · 09/08/2010 11:33

Hi :)

I had the same at 6/7/8 weeks, went for a scan at 6+5 and all was fine, had a scan at 10+5 and all still fine! They pushed both scans through really quickly so maybe do that as others have suggested?

The doctor told me lots ofwomen have it, but always good to check in with the medics to get peace of mind.

mrsgordonfreeman · 09/08/2010 11:40

I had this too and dd is now 9 months old.

I had an early scan but the heartbeat could not be seen as it was so early: we had to wait 10 days for a repeat scan which was not much fun, but when we finally had the repeat scan, the hb could be seen and it all ended happily.

I am sure if you ask for a scan they'll organise one for you.

Just a quick update. Decided not to bother phoning the Drs as there has been no more blood or anything since that little bit on Sunday night.

Boobs are a LOT more sore today, not sure how much longer I will be able to carry on BFing DS for at this rate!

Thanks for all the reassurance everyone, really did stop me getting into a state the other night :)

So pleased for you Ali Smile Liking the nickname by the way - do you have any Middle Eastern connection?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/08/2010 10:31

Thanks Puss :)

No I don't, but I do have a lot of nappies!

Gah - more this evening. Again just a little brown smear.

Am going to phone the Drs in the morning.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I also had a brown smear when I wiped this evening after going to the loo and then some reddish blood afterwards when I wiped again. I'm a lot later along in the pregnancy though, almost 11 weeks...
/emoticon for almost peeing self in sheer terror/

I rang the emergency number I've been given for 24 hour help at the hospital and was in tears on the phone. The nurse I spoke to seemed to think I was mental because I wasn't actually bleeding but, come on, any show of blood is pretty scary if you haven't had anything before!!! So far, I've had no bleeding or cramps at all, apart from some bloating and a bit of mild back pain, and I didn't even get an implantation bleed so I nearly died of fright when I saw the blood. I was due for my 12 week scan next Wednesday but since I was clearly freaking out on the phone the nurse said they'd ring me tomorrow to get a date for an earlier scan... otherwise there's basically nothing they can do. Why do these things always have to happen in the middle of the night???

Was shaking with terror earlier but have calmed down now and have managed to sleep for an hour... DH has reassured me that it's probably nothing serious since it hasn't come back (yet) but I've had such a fright! Can anyone reassure me that this isn't 'The End' for me at 11 weeks??? It seemed like I was so close to being past the danger phase Sad

PussinJimmyChoos · 13/08/2010 16:11

I think a lot of people have shows in early pregnancy...I mean all that burrowing into the lining, womb stretching out etc...its bound to shift old blood...

Ali - did you get a scan?

Prime - did you manage to push appt forward? If not, see if you can get a private scan if within your budget..may put your mind at rest?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 13/08/2010 16:30

Puss - no. I spoke to the GP who said it all sounded really normal and nothing to worry about. If I get anymore over the weekend though, and certainly if it gets any heavier/darker in colour/redder or if I get any pain then she will organise a scan asap for next week.
I'm happy with that - I feel very pregnant, sick, sore boobs, knackered, so I'm reasonably confident that all is well. My Mum also thinks it doesn't sound serious and she is a GP and has done tons of obstetrics and antenatal care so that makes me feel better. :)

What will be will be.

Ali - oooh must be good having a GP in the family Smile

Was hoping you'd have a Mid East connection -DH is Syrian! I'm crazy about all things Middle Eastern!

I had unexplained bleeds- mainly brown smearing, or the kind of blood you get right at the end of your period- on and off from wk7 till it sort of miraculously stopped a few weeks ago. Have had one tiny little bleed since but nothing more. No one could explain it. I took myself off to a&e when it happened and they scanned me a couple of times- very reassuring (until the next bleed). If your local hospital has an early unit just go straight there. Hope you're doing okay, and that it eases off soon. :)
