Severe heartburn

Does anyone know of anything I could ask my gp for to relieve the horrendous heartburn that I am having at the moment?

I have been prescribed Ranitidine (Zantac) 150mg twice a day for the past 11 years due to severe heartburn/indigestion.

I am 26 weeks pregnant (with DC3) & the heartburn is getting unbearable, as the Ranitidine dosen't seem to be working at the moment.

I have tried using Gaviscon, milk of magnesia etc too, but with no success.

HI there, Have you got the pharmacy strength Gaviscon? its super super thick. I do drink quite a bit of it and if I have a good 3-4 gulps it takes the edge off.
Sometimes nothing touches it but of all the other things I've tried Gaviscon only thing that works for me.
Not sure what else a GP could advise?

Hi!

I had been using Gaviscon but it has now been making me feel sick so have just been prescribed Omeprazole 20mg from the doctor, only got it today so not sure how well it works or how it compares to the medication you are currently on (my Dad swears by this medication as he suffered for years before we finally nagged him into getting the doctor to do something more than gaviscon) the doctor said although like most meds it is not regularly used in pregnancy she didn't know of any problems with it and just said to use when I need to.
So it may be worth asking for alternative medication suggestions in case they might work better plus with the Omeprazole I am on I can still take the Gaviscon.

Hope it gets better soon :)
