How much do early pregnancy scans cost?

This is my first post on Mumsnet!

I just found out that I am pregnant with my first child. I have always had completely irregular periods and was not trying for a baby so unfortunately don't know when I am due. This is really frustrating!

I went to my doctor today and he said I would need to see the mid-wife and then she might book me in for an early pregnancy scan. I booked my appointment with mid-wife and can't get one until 31 August which is almost a month away.

I am thinking about getting an early scan instead. Is this reasonable? Does anyone know roughly how much they cost? I am based in South East Kent and the place I called said it would be £119.00.......

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I paid £79 for an early scan with Babybond in Cardiff, there are nation wide so may have a clinic near you....

Congratulations

I had one at a private hospital in Hampshire and it was £115. Baby was about 8 weeks and everything was fine.

Really worth the money as I had been panicking following an early MC 2 months before.

it's £50 at Kent Medical Imaging, Kings hill. Google it, they can usually get you in same day too

Congratulations.

Thank you everyone - I am definitely going to go for the early scan, preferably the Kings Hill one as it is good value

But good to know there are quite a few options available around my area

I've had several early scans and have always left feeling very upset. Unless you are certain that you are more than 8 weeks, I really would advise against it. At around 6 weeks it is rare to see a heartbeat so you may well leave feeling very worried about the viability of your pregnancy and will need to wait a week or so for another scan.

Save your money and wait a few weeks when you'll know for certain that you should be seeing a heartbeat. Trust me on this one.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up going for the early scan yesterday because I just couldn't wait any longer. I think your advice was good though llareggub, as it is always better to be prepared for disappointment just in case. The nurse couldn't see anything on the first try so had to do an internal scan - which was a lot more comfortable than I expected (bad experience with smears!) - turns out I am 6 weeks and 1 day - baby due on 1 April (April Fools Day :)
