Hi All,

I am in my 10th Week of pregnancy and I have still not had my first midwife appointment or even heard from them.

I called them on Monday 2nd August and I was told my midwife would call me on Wednesday 4th but she didn't!

I don't want to come across as a crazy lady so am unsure wether or not i should call again?

When did you all have your first appointments?

I wouldn't worry, but call again as you'll probably want a few days notice for your 12 week dating scan. The delay could easily be holiday related.

Here we have booking appointments at about 10 weeks where they fill in your forms and take initial bloods and sort your 12 week scan, but this is done centrally at a children's centre and you have to book your appointment with them.
I won't see my own community midwife until 16 weeks (it'll be 18 weeks for me as I'm on holiday myself).

Don't worry about seeming like your a crazy lady - I'm a firm believer that pregnancy gives you a free pass on all sorts of behaviour.

hi didnt want to leave you unanswered, i first saw mw at 11 weeks. it was such a rush to then get my 1st scan appt then get bloods done at the right time. it all has a knock on affect. try not to worry they will see you and it will all be fine. wouldnt hurt to give your surgery another call though. this is my 2nd child and both times though i make appt through gp surgery receptionist not directly with mw but then it could just be different for you. ring them they wont mind.

Bushymoo · 05/08/2010 11:42

Didn't have a clue what I was doing, 1st went to the Doctor who said he no longer did the referrals and to book in to see the midwife, did that and she said she didn't need to see me either and just took a referral, I then got 2 appointment letters through the post, one for the scan at 13+2 and the first midwife appointment at 13+4. Things seem to be a bit different to how I remember things when I was pregnant with DS 5 years ago, I've only seen my actual midwife once at a blood test at 16weeks (at least I think she's my midwife) and don't have another appointment until 22+4.

pinchmeimustbedreaming · 05/08/2010 11:51

sorry slimyak my computer wasnt showing a reply for some reason. that all seams a bit odd. i would ring ask for the midwifes number and call directly then. she can talk you through everything and maybe explain why your 1st appt is so late.

Swazzee · 05/08/2010 11:53

I saw my MW first at 11 weeks, and I think I got the appointment letter a couple of weeks earlier. The first scan appointment letter came after that and I was over 13 weeks by the time I had it.

I agree you should call them back - if nothing else, they said they'd call you and haven't!

shemall · 05/08/2010 11:54

I saw mine at about 12 weeks as the midwife connected to our surgery had left and there was a senior filling in (but a very busy senior) while they waited on the the new permanent one to arrive, so never actually met my own midwife until I was 16 weeks.

I would call again if you are concerned.

S.x

DuelingFanjo · 05/08/2010 11:58

I saw mine at 12 weeks but had to do some phoning around to see one and it's not the one I have seen since. They had to rush my 12 week scan through (Had that at 13 weeks) as they were so late seeing me. I would give them a call incase they have forgotten you.

emptyshell · 05/08/2010 12:04

I'm about 4 weeks gone, have midwife booked for 1st appointment in a month's time so will be about 8 weeks - doctor told me to book it while I was in there getting the talk about the bajillion things I wasn't allowed to eat this morning!

Receptionist's bemused they've suddenly got a rush on for the midwife - guess there wasn't much on telly worth watching last month!

babynelly2010 · 05/08/2010 12:21

I had my first appointments sorted at 6 weeks. 10 week booking 12+ scan for Down's. Call them back and make sure you are booked for your appointments.

Mahraih · 05/08/2010 12:36

TBH I am now 14 weeks and nothing!

I am having to register with another GP as I have moved 'out of area' for my old GP (half an hour on the tube!).

New GP will not see me at all without proof of address, which I am having to get from the bank (who should be the fastest method of getting proof of address but are taking their sweet time sending it).

It's just very annoying: I live literally a 3-minute walk from new GP - I can SHOW them my house. But no GP and no midwife without proof, and bank don't seem to get the 'I'm pregnant' argument.

Trying not to stress. I had an 11-week scan at the hospital after some spotting and all was fine then. GPs/Midwives not favourite people right now though ...

coraltoes · 05/08/2010 12:53

i am booked in at 11+4 for mid wife and scan...STILL not received appt card, 1 month later...really bloody annoying how slack hospitals can be with what really ought to be routine admin!

BabyValentine · 05/08/2010 12:54

I had my booking in appointment at 10+5, and have my scan today at 12+4. Terrified...

There is no harm in ringing and saying that you may have missed a call from the midwife yesterday. That is not crazy

BabyValentine · 05/08/2010 12:55

Sorry, booking in was 9+5

robino · 05/08/2010 12:59

I had my booking in at 10ish weeks, I'm now 13ish (guess who can't remember when she had her last period...) and have had no news about a scan.

This is my 3rd; I get the feeling I'm being used as a cost-saving measure

PinkElephant73 · 05/08/2010 13:12

Call them again asap. you need to see the midwife and get a scan booked.
if you want a "nuchal scan", it has to be done by 12+6 weeks and the scan appointment slots will be getting booked up now.
I was on holiday during my 12th week so had to get my M/W booking appt in early so I knew I would be able to get the scan done in time.

angels1 · 05/08/2010 13:22

hey, I heard nothing from them until I was 10 1/2 weeks, then they range and I had my booking in yesterday (11 weeks 2 days). At the initial phone call they also gave me my 12 weeks scan date which will be dot on 12 weeks. I was like you getting worried I'd heard nothing. Just as well I'm on holiday from work - it must be hard for some people to reschedule meetings etc with such short notice! I'd give them another call at some point this week if I were you and think thisbis totally reasonable. Hope you get on OK

Ibizadreams · 05/08/2010 13:37

I had my booking in appointment after my scan, about 13 weeks.

Palace39 · 05/08/2010 14:23

I didn't see my midwife for my booking appointment until 15 weeks. In the meantime i had to organise my own 12 week scan privately as my doctor just didn't organise it. I was due to move house (although had no idea where to) and they were very difficult about my moving out of the area so refused to sort it out. I had to pay £180 to get a Nuchal Scan within the set time frames.

If you are concerned, call them, can't do any harm.

japhrimel · 05/08/2010 14:49

I had my booking-in apt at 8 weeks, nuchal/dating scan at 12 weeks.

FWIW The nuchal scan has to be done between 10 weeks & 13+6 weeks.

oldmum42 · 05/08/2010 15:04

Palace39 and japphrimel raise an important point - nucahal scanning must be done before 13+6 weeks (between about 11 weeks and 13+6), and a lot of people who would have chosen to do this test can miss out on it because they get booked in late.
Some Dr/MW may not be that up to date with their information on the availability of these new tests (they are just becoming available on the NHS in some areas), so don't see the need for an early booking appointment. So, I'd say worth phoning them up about that (if you choose to have the screening).

MrsCJOLG · 05/08/2010 15:27

Phone them, my referral from GP to midwives at the hospital got "lost" and so at 12 weeks I rang and found out they had no record of me, ended up having scan before booking appt!
Good Luck
