Bleeding

I feel so silly posting this, especially as earlier in the week, I was even contemplating termination, BUT I have just gone to the toilet and there was blood when I wiped myself (soory to be so graphic), I have had this with both pregnancies before which both turned out fine, but I am still in a blind panic. I know it is totally ridiculous, but I keep thinking I brought this on myself, because I didn't really want to get pregnant. Any advice?

Hi TerriB. I am sorry to hear you're bleeding as you do go into such a panick don't you! If I remember rightly, you are about 6 weeks?? As you know from your previous pg's bleeding does not always mean the worst. My first I bled at 8 weeks and she was absolutely fine fortunatley as many are. My second unfortunately was not. I just remember in my case the bleeding was not bright red for my first and cleared up quickly, it kept going with the one I m/carried and was very red and I had period pains.
The ONLY way you will know is by going to your hospital ( and don't feel you can't do this). If they have an EPU, all the better, if they don't then they should be able to do an internal scan, i think you;re a little early for a abdominal scan. Do you have cramps/pains, how is your bleeding? Does it have clots at all? Do you have a temp?
Please don't panick and please DO NOT think of it as punishment. It is a sad fact that about 25-30% of babies don't make it past 8 weeks, but I was told the MAJORITY of cases of bleeding go on to produce live babies. If there is something wrong, it would have been in the make up of the baby and destined to happen from conception. You are not at that point yet though, so get down to hossie and they will send youfor a scan without heitation and do a blood test.
Thinking of you, please write back and let me know. I know all the trauma you've had just lately. Could you perhaps give DH a call to be there with you, as you can get a little nervous in these places.

Sorry to hear that you are bleeding, even if you bled in previous pregnancies it doesn't make it any less worrying when it happens again. I bled throughout my first pregnancy quite heavily in the first 3 months, bright red too with period pains and was at the doctors literally every other day thinking i'd miscarried - luckily i went on to have healthy babies. I ended up having about 25 scans throughout the 40 weeks. Don't blame yourself because you're feeling guilty about having wanted a termination - pregnancy hormones make you feel all sorts. Try and get to the hospital so you can find out whats happening

Hi TerriB, I am sorry to hear you are bleeding so early. I had a small bleed at 7 weeks and then 3 other bleeds one much more serious. I am now 28 weeks and doing fine. I went to the Early Pregnancy Unit each time and they were great, I also called the midwife when I got too panicky. Do go an see someone so you can be reassured. Take care. Shelly

Hello, thanks for all your kind messages. Sorry I haven't got back sooner. Got in touch with my GP who told me to get lots of rest and see if it clears up, it lasted all weekend, and although there wasn't a lot of blood, it was bright red and accompanied by stomach cramps. Luckily, it appears to have stopped, although I am still getting stomach cramps, and GP says if it happens again, he will send me to the EPAC at our hospital for an internal scan. Had one of these when I was expecting dd, as I bled a lot with her, so I know I am probably getting this out of proportion, but you know what those pregnancy hormones do to you?!

Good to hear from you! Good news, hope all is ok. I bled with my first quite badly but she was fine. Yet the second I lost at 8 weeks but unofrtunatley pg carried on till 15 weeks and I never knew. That's what I'm afraid of this time - not knowing! Glad you;re ok!!

Quackers - if it's any consolation, my GP best friend told me after my miscarriage that just because the supposedly 11+ week preganancy was only showing as a 6 week sac, that that didn't mean it had happened at 6 weeks - it could have happened at any time in between and then started to collapse in on itself, so it LOOKED like 6 weeks. It helped me stop thinking "what was I doing then...." - as it could have been at any time.

TerriB - sorry for hijacking your thread. Glad the bleeding has stopped and hope you contiue to feel better.
