Hi,

I was diagnosed with having GBS when I was approx 9 weeks pregnant (I'm now 29+5) I was prescribed antibiotics after 12 weeks.

Anyway I remember reading that GBS can cause early labour and was looking agaian for this info when I stumbled across this website

www.groupbstrepinternational.org/info_main.html
and have freaked myself out! My doctor and midwife have both told me that GBS is nothing to worry about, but this website is all doom and gloom.

Anyone got any words of wisdom? Does anyone know how true it is that it can cause early labour along with all the other horror stories?

Thanks in advance!

I had GBS as well, though I never took anything during pregnancy (avoided any and all medicines really).
I asked for a swab test at around 39 weeks to confirm it's still there. Because I tested positive, I had an IV with simple penicillin during labour - just as a precaution.
I figured it was the best option as it provided protection for the bub, while keeping the dose minimal (not taking antibiotic during/trhoughout pregnancy). [Though my labour ended up being far longer than anyone had expected]. The baby was fine and I had the reassurance that I'd protected him from the GBS as best I could with minimal impact.
