Baby breech at 28 wk checkup?

And now im panicking!

Anyone else have a breech baby this early on who turned on its own accord or am i doomed to face the most likely result will be a breech baby at full term??

I did, and a few days after my Dr had prodded and poked around to determine breech she moved around of her own accord. Must have heard and thought 'oh so i'm supposed to be the other way up'.

It wasn't like normal movements and wriggles, very definite squirmy feeling

sure it will be ok, and if not there's ages to go until they have to do anything

Hi Yummy, i'm nearly 36/40 and mine's been breech ever since i can remember distinguishing between a bottom and a head. Dont panic though, the stats show around 20% of babies are breech at this point, this reduces to 3-4% by 37 weeks when they would consider manual turning (ECV).

Ill give you the site info everyone gave me www.spinningbabies.com. Get some tea and chocolate, settle down, get confused, try it out, laugh out loud, feel like a twit as you, lean off the sofa or try hauling yourself round on all fours, enjoy the pregnancy and don't worry. Baby will come out one way or another whatever way round they are.

Looks like mine's heading for the sunroof route now!

Mine was transverse from 26 weeks to 34 but had turned at my 36 week appointment.

Am now 40+1 and she is still head down, if I remember correctly they don't tend to worry until 37ish weeks and they can still move much later than that.

Try not to fret, googe spinning babies if you want to be dooing something constructive

Panic not. Your baby still has AGES to move. Like JamieJay, I was transverse (CS only option) from 28 weeks but baby has just put its head down at 33 weeks. Hurrah! But MW did say it could move again!

Oh, and it spun around without me doing anything - I am sitting at a desk getting stressed all day everyday, so v bad for "spinning" I am sure!

I found out yesterday at 30+3 that baby s breech but MW said not to worry as there is plenty of time. Having homebirth so really hoping she moves.

Probably a silly question - but without a scan, how do they know if the baby is breech?

ok, thanks ladies after searching on google i got myself all panicked but u have made me feel a lot better! altho im slightly still worried about the 20% mark of babies breech at this point as that means the majority are the right way (unsure of the technical term!) meaning my baby is being awkward! lol.
I really really do not want a c section (due to my needle/operation phobia so i have always been worried about this and was hoping today would be the day she would put my mind at rest and be the right way down! but looks like she wants me to sweat a bit more!
I did have the feeling she had turned in the last 2 days as i was getting lots of kicks to my top right and hand movements down by my pelvis up until this week when now they are the other way round so there is hope she is still moving every week...please baby girl turn!

Mine was breech at 28 weeks... DC3 and never had any experience of this so I too was paniced.
I read alot on line... concidered seeing an osteopath... etc... but never actually got around to doing anything!
At about 33 weeks I started to wonder if it had turned... saw MW at 34 and thank goodness it had!
Now 36 weeks and kicks at the top of my bump... so panic over! Hope you're the same!

DD was breech at around 28 weeks too and stayed that way until 37wks

I had a routine appt (at 37wks) and she was still breech but went back 2 days later for a scan and she had turned

of course mws will know if baby is breech, abdominal palpation is one of the essential skills of the mw. Obviously mistakes can be made. At 28 weeks I wouldn't be concerned baby has plenty of time to turn.

Its just numbers, not real people. Baby won't have made a decision yet which way round its happiest. Until it does, just relax. You will feel at your best if you don't worry about something you have little control over at this point.

Eat chocolate. That definitely will make you and baby feel better - trust me on this one

28 weeks is very early to be concerned. My baby was transverse at 32 week scan and the consultant wasn't worried at all, I was though! Have been doing inversions of the sofa since and midwife said he was head down at 34 weeks. Got second scan on Thursday and I am so stressed about it, doesn't make any difference though what will be will be. I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry, go to spinning babies website if you want to feel you are doing something but you are still very early for it to be a problem. As others have said they don't tend to want to intervene until 36+ weeks. Good luck.

No Cinnamon. I think he's wedged in there now. Sitting up, legs extended. He turns from side to side usually when i'm trying to sleep. I can feel his head just above my bellybutton - its really solid now. Antenatal clinic at hosp tomorrow so I will see what they suggest then. Good luck for your scan on thurs - hope he's nose down ready to go now.

I love the positive stories, gives me hope.

I think shes moving around on a daily basis rite now, in the morning shes breech then a few hours later shes upside down!

I will give it a few more weeks before i really panic i think!

AS I said above, mine was transverse, then went head down. It then DEFINATELY spun round to breech for at least a day yesterday - I felt it spin (ouch!!!) and the new position and now seems to have totally spun again (ouch!) and is head down again! Spinning galore at 33+ weeks! i dread to think what the cord is doing... it must be totally tangled!

TBH though, I am lucky in that I don't have a particular fear of hospitals or needles etc and would not be at all devastated if I had to have a CS. I don't really care at all how the baby comes out as long as it comes out safely!

northlondonchoclover - the MW knows the baby's position when she palpates (feels) your stomach. Feeling a baby's position when most of us would just feel lumps and bumps is a key MW skill. They just know what the "head" bump and the "bum" bump feels like!

Mine was transverse at 28 weeks - is head down now at 39 weeks - you'll be fine I am sure.

Im panicking way in advance but i seem to be a terrible worrier since becoming pregnant!

How long has ur baby been breech - i mean, was baby always breech at each of ur checkups?

Baby has been all over the place, lol.

Only recently has he become breech, like I said on my other thread he is actually feet down rather than bum down legs up (sorry don't know the proper names) so I'm not sure he's going to turn now has he feet are firmly in place in my pelvis.

He was certainly still moving all over the place at 28 weeks though so like others have said, I wouldn't worry yet.

Mine was breech until 37 weeks, and we had a c-section scheduled. Then he turned nicely. I always understood that this was fairly normal?

my midwife had no concerns what so ever that babywas breech - it was all me, as soon as i heard her say bum was down the bottom and head up the top my panic levels went up altho i didnt admit worrying to the midwife!

Came back to work and googled it to find out only 20% of babies are still breech at 28 wks and it made me worry even more!

i have now associated her being breech when she kicks my bladder which is worrying as she spent a good few months constantly kicking my bladder making me think shes been in the breech position quite a lot of the time. my first born never did this and he was always in the head down position from the first time the midwife checked.

only time will tell but doesnt stop me wanting to talk about it and worry myself! lol
