Sour taste in mouth after eating

Hi all,

Just a quick question - for the last few weeks I've been getting a really sour taste in the back of my tongue/mouth after eating, especially (perhaps exclusively) after eating sweet things.

Is this just a pregnancy symptom do you think? (I'm 11 weeks). It doesn't really feel like the metallic/bitter taste that some people describe, more acidy/citrusy perhaps?

I've also had an infected wisdom tooth which is in the process of getting better - could it be anything to do with that? Can't really find anything useful on google...

Thanks so much x

I guess it's just me then! I will take comfort from being unique...

Cordiality - I have something very similar! I'm 8+6 with twins. Sometimes it's there all day, sometimes it comes on after eating. Definitely not metallic, just a bit sour and yucky (kind of like if I'd thrown up a while before - although in fact I haven't been sick at all).

Sorry, not unique!

Nope you are not unique, sorry . I had this too. It started at around 8 weeks with a funny taste if i got too hungry and then progressed to everything (especially sweet things) leaving a vile 'sour' taste in my mouth for ages after eating. Am 14+3 now and it is slowly getting better x

I get this too - I've stopped drinking fresh orange juice, amongst a few other things, as a result. I am 27 weeks and get it on and off still. I find myself eating sometimes, just to try and get rid of the taste. Chewing gum seems to help too.

Yep, I had this as well when I was pregnant. Horrible sour taste after I ate sweet things. Annoyingly enough, I found sweet things helped my nausea but caused sour taste I also stopped drinking orange juice. It was worst in first 3 months and sometimes came back every now and again later on.

Still not that keen on orange juice now and DD is 13 weeks old now

Oh I'm so glad not to be unique! It's so gross I want to sort of scrape clean the back of my tongue constantly. Gross. Good to know I'm not alone, hope it clears up for you guys really soon

I have this, it's horrid!! I'm 20 weeks, it comes and goes - today, it is here....will have to go for an early lunch to disguise it.

cordiality, have had that taste for pretty much last 6weeks[sad ]Mine is after everything i eat not just restricted to sweet stuff, i know what you mean about scrsping tongue, may be TMI but is your tongue coated with stuff and what colour is it??? Gross i know but like you want to know if i'm unique

cordiality · 03/08/2010 15:44

hmm sam, have just spent a while examining the back of my tongue in the mirror, I definitely have the sour taste at the mo, and the back of my tongue is possibly a little white coated and gunky looking.

Also my saliva at the back there is kind of thick and stringy, like when you've had something really acidic.

If anyone would like any more detailed information about my bodily fluids, please let me know, or maybe I have grossed everybody out enough with this?!

Next up - ear wax!
