Loperamide in Pregnancy - Help im in a panic

So, i've suffered IBS badly for years, without tmi i have problems with urgency as opposed to blockages. few years ago i was prescribed loperamide (basic form of immodium) taking two tablets a day - more if needed. when i got pregnancy mentioned my IBS meds (this and mebeverine) no-one told me to stop. so i carried on, first six months being at work etc i took my regular dose - two a day. since being signed off with hyperemisis i stopped taking them as often as i was at home all day and not suffering as much.

Anyway this morning i was flicking thru the NHS pregnancy book and notice a section on medicines to avoid and loperamide is one of the 'do not take ones'

cant find any info of studies on the net and my consultant has never discussed any risks, although not even sure if its been mentioned since my first appt (OH says i have i cant remember)

so now im in MAJOR panic mode, have i been endangering my baby? i mean 7 months is soooooo long! I'm now 36 + 4.

I am normally so sensible and dont tend to panic, am i being irrational!

And BREATHE......

Thanks Leonie

On further research ive also seen you arent supposed to use mebeverine but kinda on the same lines of what it says about loperamide.

Guess its the same with any meds and as OH is saying - they keep letting me have my repeat prescriptions so they do know im getting it

i am now going to chillax.

bloody hormones...

thanks again!

thanks so much for your help

when i think rationally i know that baby could have problems regardless of any tablets etc - and i would deal with it.

i am glad to hear your DD didnt suffer problems due to the tabs.
