Currently i am singe living with my parents and my 3yr old and i am pregnant (29 weeks). Me and my ex were thinking of trying again for the sake of the baby but decided to have a 3 month break - we are due to chat in 4 weeks time about "where we go from here". Currently i am living as a single parent back at my mum and dads, but i'm not sure if i can claim sure start maternity grant? I work 18 hrs a work, earn 6k a yr but i only get 55 a week child benefit and 60 a week working tax. If me and my ex parnter were to get back together i dont think i'd be able to claim it as he works full time so i need to apply now. People have told me to wait til after the baby is born as tax credits go up but hopefully i'll be back with my partner then and he earns 14k a yr. Any advice? Alot of my friends have got it and there partner works and earns alot more than mine,am confused on how it all works and dont find the direct gov website very help ful :S

Just get the forms and apply - they will let you know if you are eligible or not. Nothing to lose by trying!
