Baby movement - remind me he can have quiet days!

Hi all

Just need a bit of a virtual shaking - am 29 weeks and baby has been comparatively quiet today, only a few wee kicks every so often compared to the normal kung-fu style I get! Please remind me that they have active and quiet days and I shouldn't freak out?

Thanks!

They do have quiet days, but if you're worried you should go see your midwife.

Put you're feet up with a cuppa for a while you might be getting more subtle movements that aren't as obvious if your up and about doing.

I'm a worrier too so I'm with you on the constant need for both reasurance and reality checks.

Thanks slimyak. It's tricky at work but will be doing the sweet drink + lie on my side test as soon as I get home! He is moving occasionally, so I'm probably just panicking, he's normally jsut such a wriggler!

Go in and ask for his heartbeat to be checked. I don't want to alarm you - they do get quieter as dd day approaches - but in my case bad things were happening. So don't risk it.

They can do, but I would pause now, have a cold sugary drink, and see if he moves. If not, you need to speak to your midwife.

My baby is so sluggish so I know they can have quiet days, but it really is best to have it checked out if things are changed.

Have posted similar thread recently and answered on them. If there is ANY reduction/change in baby's movements, get it checked. I have been in twice where I had CTGs and also a scan to check placenta was working due to reduced movements.

All is well, but the advice is do not risk it, no matter how many times you have to seek help. You are looking for a change in pattern and if this happens seek medical advice. I am not usually worried about this sort of thing: this is my 4th DC but very glad I was checked over.

The midwife told me,babies dont have quiet days or less movement towards the end, they should kick propley at least 10 times, dont want to worry you,as it might just be at a funny angle or something, but i would pop along and get it checked out.good luck x

Thanks guys. Am due to leave work shortly so will try my lying-down and cold sugar drink trick and then head off to the hosp if no change. Have tried having a sugary cup of tea and I think he's wiggled but much less distinct than I'm used to. He will be fine, right?

just seen your post and wanted to send you a big hug. x

Hoping the sweet drink works, i always find, im 30 weeks today, that if baby has been quiet eating something cold like ice cream set her off. Do remember that baby has less room for kicking as they get further along. Please go hosp if still quiet. Thinking of you .

drink lucozade or any other energy drink, sure to give baba energy

WorrisomeHeart · 30/07/2010 19:40

Thanks so much all - had some really strong (bump moving!) kicks on the way home and then on and off since, so panic abating. It's so hard keeping calm isn't it? I guess I should get used to the worry!!

Even if the movements are less distinct please call your delivery suite/midwife unit. They will do a CTG (heart trace) on baby which is reassuring and can rule out any problems. Please don't delay and don't feel silly/embarassed.

My baby was not responding to lying down/sugar rush/poking etc: all is fine but might not have been:who knows.

People on here cannot tell you your baby is fine and there is not a substitute for medical opinion/checks if you are in the least bit concerned.

Please call somebody. Thinking of you!
