Do blood sugar levels increase the nearer your due date?

I've just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and am having to finger prick test 7 times a day. So far (although I have only been doing it for a day or so) my levels are okay, well within range. I have tweaked my diet a bit but not much.

My question is, do blood sugar levels increase the nearer you are to your due date? I'm only 26+5 so although my blood sugar levels are okay at the moment, I'm just wondering if they are going to rise, even with me doing the same diet etc?

Thank you!

Your blood sugars don't rise as such, but your ability to process sugar, if you have gestational diabetes, can decrease as your pregnancy progresses - hence you get higher readings.

Keep an eye on things as you are and tweek your diet and fingers crossed you'll have to do nothing more than keep off the chocs for a while.

7 times a day sounds a lot - you'll run out of fingers. If you're getting OK readings I'd ask about decreasing this. I only ever had to do 3 times a day - when I got up, 2 hours after lunch and 2 hours after dinner.
