Braxton hicks and collapsed stomach?

I'm 38+5 and was laying on my back this morning (only for a few minutes as I was trying to get rid of cramp in my leg!) when I had a massive Braxton Hicks.

I felt my tummy and it was rock solid but had collapsed if that makes sense? From the belly button down to my pubic bone there was no bump - it was flat. The bump was still there at the top and side. All is back to normal now. Baby is very quiet though. Does anyone know if this is normal or if I should be panicking??? Thank you!

if baby is quieter than normal you must go and get it checked

Miffster · 29/07/2010 10:01

Might it be the baby getting into head down position ready to be born?

NichyNoo · 29/07/2010 10:20

Baby is already head down...

I hate the feeling of not knowing if things are OK. He has been really quiet but definitely still getting some movements. The whole 'crater in middle of tummy' thing this morning freaked me out though.

i've always been told that any changes in baby's activity should be checked out, be it more or less than normal

please go to your local maternity unit to get monitored

Perhaps the baby has totally engaged. When I was in labour with my second (a very quick labour) I was in the bath and my dp thought my waters had broken because my belly suddenly dropped or collapsed as you said. However my waters hadn't broken but the baby had fully engaged.

horseymum · 29/07/2010 16:53

crater could be because baby is back to back. can you feel hands poking out at you?

notnearlyasblondasiwas · 29/07/2010 17:09

THis happened to me about 4 days before my DD was born, she had turned back to back and we didn't realise, but I noticed much less movement. I would get it checked out FWIW, at least you might be able to get baby round the right way again if that's what it is and be reassured that everything is ok

MrsMiamla · 30/07/2010 10:11

how are you today NichyNoo? (great name btw!)

NichyNoo · 30/07/2010 10:15

I'm good - thanks for asking

Baby slowly geared up as yesterday went along and moved a lot more. Still quite sluggish but definitely movements. Then in the middle of last night he woke me up by doing karate kicks for about 2 hours which, although annoying, was very reassuring as that is what he is normally like

Quiet again today but definite movements.
