I may well be about to show my ignorance, as it may be perfectly normal, but I find it strange that I seem to get heartburn when I am hungry and not after I have eaten. Is this the wrong way round?

I am not worried or anything, just constantly amazed by the strangeness of my body

Actually, food can help keep it down, by giving you something to soak up the acid. It's only if you eat triggering foods (spicy, fatty, hot/cold, etc) or too much food (which in some people can end up being very little) that food tends to trigger heartburn.

KFW i think i know what you mean as i have had this feeling too. at one point i thought it might be a stomach ulcer i have had in the past returning but it seems to have eased off a bit now. i'm careful not to let myself get too hungry.
it's kind of like gnawing/burning/hunger pains all rolled into one?

thanks japhrimel. you seem to be very knowledgeable about a lot of things!

sotough - yes, for me it is kind of hunger pains with burning. it's unpleasant but at the moment it seems to be pretty much the only symptom i have (fingers crossed), so at 28 weeks i shouldnt complain i guess! i was just interested to see whether it was normal. i had always associated heartburn with overeating.

hope it subsides for you!

I have this too, when hungry mainly, just got some gaviscon from my gp, I'm only 18 weeks so I expect it will get alot worse. Was drinking a lg bottle of gaviscon a week for the last few weeks with dd!

Try this link: www.karenhurd.com/concern_morning_sickness.html.
My morning sickness has been terrible (retching every few hours, and really painful heartburn), but since following the advice and starting to eat regular doses of beans, lentils and hummous 2 days ago, the heartburn has really subsided and I have been much less sick today. It could just be coincidence, so I'll have to give it more time.

I've been careful to avoid fat and spices as well.
