Boy or girl???

At my 20 week scan, we were told that we are having a girl because the sonographer saw 3 visable white lines. Is this usually a valid way of determining the sex of a baby girl?

with a boy they can see two black dots, which are his testicles,so that is obvious its a boy,im not 100% on a girl, but i suppose no black dots mean a girl,or a ballless boy lol .

Just looking through this thread my 20 week scan is in a few weeks and we are hoping for a girl so will be looking out for 3 lines as said above!
We already have a DS who I love and won't be dissapointed by another boy, although from the midwife the baby is moving around so much she joked it was a naughty boy so kind of expecting another.

I would keep it neutral anyway with cremes and yellows but they are much better so you are probably safe with pink. You don't know when you are little there are loads of old photos of me in boys clothes as we didn't have much money so I got hand me downs from my cousin who was a boy- didn't do me any harm at all.

Congratulations aswell x

Thanks DitzyDoo - Just to let you know that this baby is just as active (if not more) than my first DS. I feel exacly the same as you. My little boy is the most precious thing to me in the world and another little boy would never be a dissappointment. I have kept many of the things neutral, like the nursery and the pram etc which are all hand me downs from my son but I have had so many gifts from friends and family that have been pink since telling them about the scan. I also went to the Next sale last week and did go a bit crazy with both clothes for my son and girly things for the new arrival. We will just have to wait and see - 3 weeks and 2 days to go

Enjoy your scan in the next few weeks. Is always amazing to see something so precious growing inside you. Are you going to ask the sonography the sex of the baby or do you want a suprise?

ah i have been wondering about the accuracy of the scans.

we have four boys, with no 4 we found out the sex and they said boy and it was VERY obvious.

this time we decided at the last minute to find out and nearly fainted with shock when the sonographer said girl! we said IT CANT BE! soo convinced i would be having a 5th boy. but the sonographer was convinced its a girl, she said she is not allowed to say that she is 100% sure but she would be VERY suprised if it came out and was a boy. and as we were so disbelieving she did check numerous times whilst doing the anomoly scan.

i am now 24wks and i just bought a few girly bits in the next sale, but have also bought unisex bits and have some bits from the previous four that i will re-use.

bizarelly tho we only have boys names and are really struggling to find a girls name that we like, i am sure part of me is convinced that the baby will come out a boy, wwhich would be fine.

i am tempted to pay for a scan privately to check the sex again, just so i can feel more sure, but in reality i dont care either way, i think i just need convincing that its a girl as i am so used to boys!

good luck everyone with their pregnancies and cant wait to hear what you have

4madboys - Congratulations. Your scan sounds very accurate to me because of the fact they checked on numerous occassions through the scan to see that it was a girl. It sounds like this new arrival will have a great time being looked after by 4 big brothers! I have 2 brothers myself and even now they keep a look out for their big sister - it is great.

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Have you decided if you are going to go for a private scan?
