SPD and GD - what can I do about exercise?

I am almost 30 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with SPD since quite early on in the pregnancy, this has seen my exercise fizzle to barely nothing as anything more than a couple of minutes walking creates pain for days. I have today though been diagnosed with gestational diabetes as well and have been told that exercise will help to control the sugar levels. . . . what do I do?

Aqua Natal. But make sure your teacher knows about your pelvis and no breaststroke. Ring your local pool and ask if they have a class on. If not, gentle backstroke or crawl in free swim times would do.

I have also been doing lots of upper body pilates exercises (with light weights) sat on my birth ball (the physio suggested the birth ball sitting to strengthen my core and support my pelvis).

I would also suggest seeing a chiropractor if you can at all afford it. Mine got me from barely able to walk, to just having achey crotch pain within a week, I wish I had gone months earlier. I am back to being able to take a gentle daily walk for exercise, wheras a few weeks back I was struggling to get to the bathroom clinging to the walls.

Physio can help with exercises - I have ball exercises to do for my SPD. They're tiny movements, but work to strengthen the core muscles.

And I recommend pool work too. Gentle swimming (no breast-stroke legs & take it easy) and walking in the pool really helps and I think it's toning my legs up too!

I'm seeing a myofascial release massage therapist regularly and she's amazing. It's a physio kind of massage, not necessarily relaxing.
